After the fall semester of 1st grade, my son was not picking up the skills he needed to be a successful reader. This led to a decrease in his confidence and resistance to reading activities. I knew we had to intervene to keep him on the right path and I’m so grateful we enlisted Winnie for that job. Winnie is very knowledgeable and engaging. She taught the strategies that my son needed with lessons that incorporated elements of things he loves, like Star Wars and Marvel. She provided summary sessions, which I shared with his teacher so she could reinforce skills that he was working on with Winnie. After a few sessions, I saw an increase in my son’s confidence and, as sessions progressed, he continued to soar. He was so proud when he “graduated” and became a “Jedi Reading Master.” His reading skills progressed to average and, later, to well above average. Daily reading is an enjoyable experience at our household and this is priceless.

Having a child with dyslexia is challenging enough on it own; however with the assistance of Winnie's Place I was able to get specialized instruction for my daughter. Not only were we able to to get tutorial, but guidance throughout her educational process and input as it related to her IEP. Winnie has been a blessing, as too often support on the south side is limited. Winnie always made tutorial engaging and entertaining, so my daughter did not feel like it was just a task. Thank you for all you do!
