I just passed my PPL Part 61 checkride after about 5 months of training here at WAFA @ CFO. It has been an amazing experience. Everyone, from my primary instructor to the front tesk staff, we're top-notch. Flexible, helpful, and safety-conscious. Like many flight schools, my instructors are soon leaving for airline jobs, but the leadership at WAFA have created a great culture here that I'm sure will keep the high standard of instruction going even when they move on. Their in-house maintenance is on their game and have gone out of their way to get aircraft turned around quickly, but without compromising the quality of work.

Come train at CFO - the airport is great, and WAFA has given me a great foundation to be a safe and excellent pilot.

I have to advise customers to review charges carefully, that extra time calculating the math could catch hundreds of dollars in attempted overcharges as was my case catching seperate overcharge errors on the billing rate, time billed, and an attempted double charge for one lesson over a month after it occured. They did downgrade the double charge error to what they said was originally an undercharge correction for that lesson but since it was about 40 days after the lesson was first charged and they failed to send me details when I asked for an explanation for the new charge I decided to move on. Perhaps they were tired of my corrections because they didn't complain/respond about my departure or otherwise show any giveashits. I'm the type customer who expects a business to be spot on or discount charges when they make mistakes so perhaps my standards are higher than their average customers.
Other than that extra work involved it's pretty straight forward, you can look at the instructors availability for the future months, rent aircraft, etc. Their rates are competitive with flight schools but higher than leasing companies and more experienced independent instructors. A good starting point for patient and generous students to learn from fresh instructors. Of course they do have experienced instructors but I found their availability particularly lacking to put it mildly.
Particularly good advice is to go with a dedicated fast track instruction program if you are into that, I made the mistake of thinking if I just put in the hours and effort they'd get me licensed in a reasonable time. Centennial flyers for example has an instructor with some 40-45hr completions and there are other dedicated programs out there that provide documented similar results.
I've spent over $7k to this organization so I feel I have a very educated opinion as their former customer.
I give 3 stars as I'm used to some businesses treating customers like this and it's an essential and market limited service they provide. Any other industry would get less but for those reasons it's still usable with the extra effort as I explained and thus 3 stars instead of 1/2.

Excellent Flying club/School that shares its' fleet and family with American Flight Schools at KAPA and KBJC. Great staff and quality aircraft. One of the better maintenance teams. I Love this place, the best community.
