I think that this school is a good option to do your flight training. But I think that the maintenance team can be more efficient with how they do aircraft maintenance. In my experience, I had lessons booked on a Tuesday and some Thursdays from the start to the end of this month well in advance for their Cessna 172N airplane and all of them were cancelled. I understand that there are 100 hour and annual inspections that need to be done to meet the FAA safety standards but I found it frustrating that the same airplane model with some being the same callsign going into maintenance multiple times in a month. I also think that the instructor and airplane rate is expensive for somebody that is paying out of pocket to do training. Other than that the instructors I had were really helpful and encouraging during my training and great people as well.

The owners keep adding brand new planes for students and members to fly and the instructors are excellent. There’s enough instructors available so if any of my main ones cancel, there’s a good substitute that fills in.

I haven't been in a while, but when I was there, it was a great place to learn. Some of the best overall flight experiences here. CFIs, students, pilots, scheduling, DPEs. Front desk will eradicate any intimidation you might feel the moment you walk in. The person who gave me a tour was so personable and scary knowledgeable that I thought all places were like this. Nope. This place is a gem.

After spending six months at Rocky Mountain flight school next door not getting anywhere, Western air took care of me and sped me through all my private requirements. They prepared me for my checkride and it made the test seem easy after all the preparation I was doing! Before I came to western, I knew how to fly but once I switched to western I learned how to be a pilot.

The best place to learn to fly! I was able to start my flight training here a few months ago and the instructors, staff, and management have been a tremendous help with the process. Each time I come to fly, my instructor and the whole staff have a welcoming smile that makes me want to keep coming. I was initially intimidated by flight training in general but each instructor has been more then helpful in understanding this. The planes are well maintained and have reasonable rates that are affordable!

I went to Western Air Flight Academy for mountain training after reading about them in a magazine article. Everything I read turned out to be true. It was a great experience and feel certain it has made me a better pilot, especially a more cautious pilot. Playing around in the mountains is fun but can also be deadly if you don’t make the right decisions. Lou was my instructor and really knows his stuff. If you’re interested in mountain flying or just want to be a better pilot, give them a call. You won’t regret it. Also, kudos to Cody and staff for their hospitality and professionalism. This is an A+ organization.

Excellent experience, our 11 year old is interested in becoming a pilot and we did a discovery flight. Flight trainer was amazing at showing the plane, talking about future career and gave him confidence in his ability to handle the plane in turbulence. Would definitely recommend!

Strongly do not recommend as a part 61 student.
Assigned CFIs are more interested in time building than quality instruction. Lots of new teachers building time towards ATP.

Even as a part 61 student, you are still required to go through stage checks, which means that the school feels your instructor does not have the ability (nor the competence) to judge your progression nor check you out on their own. This means that "real" instruction is gated to these mini-checkrides. My experiences with the check instructors were all positive.

Unfortunately my day to day experience was less than positive as the incentives for normal CFIs are not aligned at all with students.

Pros: The planes are nice, well maintained, and the staff is friendly.
