Completing the course was easy and very flexible. Nice to have the option to schedule on my own time. I feel very confident after completing the course in my ability to pass the CNA exam.

There is like 3 clinical sites to schedule from and they are all booked out months in advance. I just finished the online portion and now come time to schedule clinicals they are pushed out late April and later in the summer! They did not tell me this or would have found another company! Ridiculous to be scheduled clinical out that far that's 3 months away! Im trying to get my license now not in 6 months! find another company

First of all, why does this course have so many high reviews? The reason is because when you finish your clinical, at the end of the day the instructor has you scan a QR code which leads you to the Google review form, then you have to fill out the review in front of him and then he actually goes into Google to make sure you left a review. I feel like this is unethical and makes the Google reviews not accurate as to what people actually think. (Plus the place he had me leave a review for was in lakewood, even though I took my course in colorado springs.)
The course itself was self paced, which is convenient. Mary, the online instructor is very monotone and says the same things over and over... she ends just about every statement she makes with "Right". The online skills portion of the course was ok, but they don't tell you enough information. It should start out by telling you what supplies you need and then go on to the steps. Yes, you have your print out also, but you should be able to use the videos to study without using your printout. Also some of the skills she does wrong and based on a couple of the videos, I don't even think they would pass the state exam if they were grading her on them. After you have completed the course you can schedule a review before your state exam. I went to 2 of these and the first one was helpful, but the instructor wasn't really paying attention to what your doing and some people were literally doing things wrong and she would say that they did good, because she wasn't paying attention. I went to another review session and it was clear that the instructor just wanted us out of there and for the day to be over, which was really unfair to the people who had their tests scheduled and expected to actually practice.
Overall, I wasn't impressed. Even the instructor told us that the videos needed to be redone. I felt the videos were a very low standard and I can't believe some of them actually made it to the course in the first place, (such as the bed pan, where she touches the bed pan and touches everything else while holding the bed pan up in the air over the client. How did this make the final video cut?)
The clinical portion of the class can be done at Brookdale or Palisades. Brookdale is extremely understaffed, so you will be busy all day and see some pretty sad cases. The people working are sort of overwhelmed and will try to have you do things you're not supposed to do as a student. You can work on 2 different floors, because you can switch in the afternoon and it's interesting to see how the charge nurse handles things. I worked floors 4 and 5 and you could tell the charge nurse Frankie just didn't care and wanted to get out of there, while the charge nurse on floor 5 had things more together and seemed to care more about her residents. Working at the Palisades is very slow and boring compared to Brookdale. It's assisted living so there isn't that much to do. I wouldn't say either one really taught you anything about the skills, since they basically don't follow them at the actual nursing home.
All of the students that I kept in contact with did not pass their first exam. I would love to know what the real percentage of passing is. The written exam is easy, but the skills portion is not, in fact the first day I tested not a single person passed because if you do one tiny thing wrong, you just failed the whole thing and will have to pay another $100 to retake the test. Some of the people on my testing day had already failed the first round and then failed that day also and your only allowed to take the exam 3 times. When you fail at state they also don't tell you what exact part you actually failed, they just vaguely tell you that you did step 3 wrong... but if step 3 is a detailed step you won't know what exactly you did wrong.
You basically have to pay a lot of money and jump through a lot of hoops to get to be a CNA, which is a pretty low paying job, considering what you have to do, which is sad because the industry needs more people working in it.

The instructor Teddy was very informative when it came to our labs. I had Stacy who is an RN help me with my first clinical and she is a great teacher. Herb is very nice and makes sure that you are being treated well during your clinicals. Each worker is willing to provide you with the information you need if you are willing to ask questions.
