After using Varisty Tutors services they have since texted, called, emailed, pretty much done anything they can over and over to try and get me back into their program for months. My response every time has been under the lines of “I no longer need your services please leave me alone.” Since they haven’t stopped they are getting this review. Stop wasting my time… Also I would like to mention their dishonest practices. I was told over the phone that hours could be refunded. When I had decided that I didn’t want their service after not using a single minute to begin with, I was then told all hours are non refundable after purchase. I think it is also worth mentioning that their tutor quality is inconsistent and definitely not worth the money they are asking for. Please choose a local tutor over this sketchy money hungry company, you will have a higher quality more intimate experience and you will save a significant amount of money.

I paid 1164 for a tutor. A tutor and I finished early. I wasn't told that I was not able to get my money back for the hours not used. That was around $500 of my money. What I was trying to get a refund for 3 weeks nobody would call me it nothing. I was told that they do not give refunds. I will never do business with this company again! I just don't feel that this company is trustworthy and I just don't understand. That should have been the first thing I was told and I wasn't told this. I was told that a family or friend could use the rest of the hours. I asked them how was it that you guys get to hold on to my money and I don't get any more services? There's nothing mutual happening so they just get to hold on to your money. That doesn't make any sense to me?
I I had this at a one star but I will update to three-star because there was a manager that reached out to me. I appreciate that they listened and that they took care of the issue. Thank you for refunding the $500.

I'm using Varsity Tutors for my son over the summer. He does individual tutoring, group sessions on executive functioning, and has access to other individual classes/sessions of his choosing. I think it's really helping him a lot. And he is more engaged than I expected. They did a great job of selecting his one on one tutor based on his individual needs. And I really appreciate the comprehensive packages available.

Although my initial encounter with Varsity tutors was unpleasant, their management team was very professional in the way they treated me. I was unable to find a tutor that met my needs, however, the management team was thoughtful enough to give me a full refund along with some free hours. I can say with the utmost truth that Varsity tutors cares about the interactions between them and their clients. If you need a tutor, this would be a great place to start, but if it doesn't work out, the management team is more than willing to get you what you need.

We hired Varsity Tutors to help our son with Literacy and executive functioning. We were placed with a tutor right away who had a phone call with me to get to know our sons needs (15 minute phone call) and then one session to assess his abilities. She charged us for two sessions (but varsity tutors made that right and gave us back a session). Time after time our tutor canceled on us at the very last minute (as we were awaiting our session online). We requested a new tutor. They placed us with a new one right away. This tutor had one session with our son only to let us know that our time frame wouldn’t work for her schedule. Varsity tutors said they would follow up about our session and never did. It was a constant back and forth. So we ended up paying for a full month. We only received two sessions from two different people and now we are two months in with absolutely zero results. AND now my child is not wanting to try tutoring any more
because he thinks the tutors don’t want to teach him. I wouldn’t recommend this company. We just didn’t have a great experience with them even if they continue to promise they will make it right. I refuse to put my son through the rejection of adults not being able to show up for him as promised. That goes for the the tutors and the people trying to help in the company who don’t do what they say. Not much accountability in a field that trust is an absolute necessity! We are not complainers by nature. Just trying to save other people from the head ache, heart ache, frustration and absolute waste of money and time. It’s such a bummer

We have spoken to the customer service team about our frustrations and the answer is always one more free month with a new tutor. However we don’t have the time to waste on trying again. It seems the vetting and the scheduling and the interactions between company and tutors are not very aligned. We did ask for a partial refund of the sessions we did not use and actually paid for. they said no. Not unexpected but disappointing since we got nothing out of it.

We are amending our review to a three star review due to a call from customer service. We have been refunded for the entire month we paid which does take out the sting a bit. We still did not have great experiences with the tutors but at least Varsity Tutors made good on their word.

I have been tutored by Varsity Tutors for six months now, and I just signed up for more sessions. I'm learning Spanish on line with Lori Bowman, she comes very prepared for each one of my sessions, she is patient, kind, fun, and always structures my class to meet my needs for now and my future travels. Varsity Tutors follows up regularly with me as well to ensure my experience is in line with my expectations. I would highly recommend Varsity Tutors! Thank you!

Edit: I appreciate that Varsity Tutors not only responded to my review but reached out to me to see if they could make things right. I am not sure if/when I will be able to use their offer, but I appreciate that it means enough to them to reach out and attempt to do better next time. If/when I do use the offer they gave me, I will update my rating and review based on my new experience. Upfront, this is a review of online services for Italian Class. I am not sure what office location this was out of. I gave two stars instead of one because Varsity Tutors did refund me after my experience, but I'd prefer to have the learning than the money.

I signed up for Italian Class two nights a week. Our first class was sporadic and all over the place. No real structure to class. She was more than 30 minutes late to the second class and the third class was cancelled because she was a new show. We were given a new tutor who sent out book requirements which seemed promising for more structure, but then he no-showed the class as well. Varsity Tutors kept extending the course each cancellation, but timing was critical for me. I have since been refunded, but am still getting email notifications for class. The course is now on tutor #4. This was not a reliable solution for me. I don't know if they are better for SAT/ACT courses, but I would NOT recommend using this service.

I cannot be thankful enough for this company. I’ve read many reviews for other tutoring sites and I interviewed a few other tutoring sites prior to choosing Varsity Tutors. It was always the same script, how many hours, how much does it cost, etc. but it seemed that nobody was listening to what were my needs, or in this case, my child’s needs until I called Varsity. As soon as I explained the reason for needing a tutor, Zachary (customer rep) started talking about setting up a learning plan that included dates and goals, etc. He was really listening and catering to my needs. He set me up with a great tutor (Mara) who not only has helped my son with his reading issues, she has also dedicated time after each session to guiding me and my husband by providing the right tools for our son’s successful reading path. I would definitely recommend Varsity Tutors, this is one of the best investments I have ever made.
