We started on a weekly plan for my daughter, and after awhile we reduced to twice monthly because she was making progress. Towards the end of the school year we decided to stop our tutoring sessions. I called and spoke with someone who insisted we keep our membership at a lower monthly rate so she could access tutoring over the summer. I explained that we did not want to continue and that I want our membership to end. She then informed me that I needed to call back towards the end of the month. I called twice more and eventually (after getting very upset with the sales person) cancelled my membership, or so I thought.

I was going through my bank transactions and noticed that not only are they still charging me, but they nearly doubled my monthly agreed upon amount one of the months. I spoke with a bank representative who will dispute the charges. This is a scam and is absolutely not worth signing up for. I spent so much time on the phone trying to end my services, and in the end they are still charging me. I plan on reporting Varsity Tutors to the better business bureau. This has been one of the most frustrating experiences, and it’s honestly too bad because my daughter really loved her tutor.

Even though my child did not pass, the tutoring was OK. However, I purchased four hours of tutoring from the customer service rep. The next month (when my child was no longer working with Varsity Tutors), I was charged $379.00. I called immediately and requested that they remove the unauthorized charge - my request has been ignored for two weeks. There has been zero communication either so I had to put the unauthorized charge in dispute with the bank. I would not recommend this company.

Spent $579 for 8 hours of tutoring. Was unable to find a time to work with the tutor because he said he was busy and had limited availability. After 2 weeks of this, I contacted Varsity Tutors and asked if I could have a refund, since I had received no help, and no longer needed assistance with the subject. I was told on the phone that I would be able to cancel the subscription plan they had enrolled me in (this will automatically bill you each month, be careful) and that I would receive a refund since I never actually used their services or was provided any help at all. Varsity Tutors is now saying that I am not eligible for a refund, and that according to their terms of service I don't get my money back.

*Update* Varsity Tutors has informed me that the tutors are 1099 contractors, and they can't help that they did not show up to our scheduled and confirmed sessions, and they are not responsible for their actions. My options are: pay them another $49 per month to keep my membership, and hopefully I can use my hours in the future. Or, lose my money and hours on July 13th.

The Varsity Tutors website states: "Varsity Tutors provides a comprehensive, 100% tutor satisfaction guarantee." - speaking with an agent on the phone now, they are saying this doesn't actually apply to my case, as I do not meet the qualifications for the guarantee. How wonderful! Weird that no one mentioned this when I was signed up and billed on day 1.

We have used Varsity Tutors now for about 4 months to help keep my son learning over the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade. We have a family history of dyslexia and needed something that was flexible as we had a busy summer. Varsity was/is great to work with! His tutor has been amazing about keeping his attention and progressing through material even though it can be challenging with an active 6 year old!

I would like to update my review, as I just received a positive and supportive feedback from Varsity tutors client’s experience manager and she was understanding and approved our refund. I trust this place.
Make sure that you are risking your money so don’t pay a big amount in advance, the first semester we used varsity tutoring we had a great experience the when we enrolled in more subjects we had a bad experience with at least 5 tutors in gr12 math and biology! We tried with so many tutors then when we asked for a refund they said it was past time and we lost a great amount of money!

This is absolutely the worst online tutoring company. Mutiple times the tutor never showed and I asked to make have tutoring on Tuesdays only and I'm getting requests for tutoring on Fridays. I told them my concern that he may have dyslexia and they said they would pair me with one that works with that and knows different things to do to help but I have not seen that once in the few sessions that she actually showed up. This is a shame that I am trying to help better my son and give him confidence in school but I can't even do that because they have caused nothing but problems I have to race home and leave work earlier to help get him set up for the tutoring for them not to even show. Now I want to cancel and I want my money back for the hours I have not used and they can't even do that this is a shameful company and I will make sure everyone knows!

We have been very pleased with this service once we were assigned the right tutor for our son. Varsity Tutors was very easy to get in touch with any time I called. When we weren’t fully satisfied with the first two tutors they immediately found us replacements and even credited some of our tutoring hours back to us. The current tutor we have, Michael, is phenomenal. He has so many strategies for our son and at the end of each session he gives an extremely detailed written report of exactly what he and our son worked on and what his plan is for future tutoring sessions. He is kind and patient and personable. We enrolled with Varsity Tutors to help our son bring up his ACT score and we feel they are taking that goal very seriously.

I looked into Varsity Tutors for a physics and pre-calculus tutor for my high school junior. Varsity Tutors did a good job matching my child with qualified tutors that have helped my child feel more confident at school and supplement the learning. Price is reasonable. I particularly like that my child can refer back to the tutoring session and listen to the recording. During the session, the whiteboard feature is very useful. Would recommend Varsity Tutors.
