I do not have any experience with attending, but hopefully, it is in my future. I dream of attending JACSW, but I can't afford it at the moment. One thing I know is I am the pioneer of my own education and learning. Some of these reviews seem to be embedded with ungratefulness. I am here to say that if anyone has a scholarship and hates the program, I would love to take your spot. In fact, I am waiting to take your spot.

This was the worst graduate school for the MSW program. I chose it for affordability. There were about 3 tenured professors that were excellent. The remainder were adjunct faculty that had no experience, and were not teaching at a graduate level. My undergrad program at the UO was far more challenging than this. They accepted students who weren’t that bright either. They turned their noses down at private practice and insisted you work for terrible wages in the community. I had no option of an internship. They gave me one working with ex offenders! I said I didn’t want it but they said that was the only option. If you are serious abt your education abd want to pursue a clinical track don’t go here! Go get a Psy.D or find a school that teaches something worth your time. I had only 3 good classes and the rest did nothing to prepare me. The worst was when you complained to the Dean his response was to call you a “borderline”! He didnt care nor did he want the truth. Not professional!

I have an MSW and graduated JACSW with my BSW. One of the best programs I have ever been involved with. Great diversity of students and staff. Didn’t realize until many programs later that the diversity of staff and students would have been one of the best parts of my education. Many opportunities provided especially because of the attachment to world-renowned University of Illinois at Chicago. I’m not into leftists staging as progressives but diversity will weed that out. You can’t say that about other schools and programs.

I just graduated from here with my MSW and even had Patricia O'Brien as a professor. She is absolutely a feminist, but is certainly not man hating. It seems as if most people complaining in this review section have left their comments without actually reading the article that Professor O'Brien wrote. I had amazing professors at JACSW and was continually inspired by them, my classmates, and everyone else I met through JACSW either as a guest speaker or field instructor. If you're considering this school, please search beyond the Google reviews. It is rated in the Top 50 MSW programs by multiple sites. These reviews have been taken over by conservative, whiny, man-babies who think they're oppressed because a woman has dared to conduct research and write about it in an article that I'm sure most of them didn't even bother to read.

I graduated with my MSW in 2016. Overall, I felt it was a decent program. The classes for concentrations (children/family, school, community, mental health) were superior to the general core classes. I had professors that were working in their communities and were able to translate their practices into classroom work.

My main issues were with the internship program and the core classes. As someone that has been involved in the social services field for a long time, I did not find my 1st internship all that helpful. I had to complete 450 hours of free labor for "basic" internship to help me understand the social work field. My second internship was more helpful. But be advised in my experience the field placement office for internships is not all that helpful.
The core classes were painfully simple. If anyone took an Anthropology 101 during undergrad, that's basically what two of those classes are.

Final point. I do believe, I benefited from this program. But JACSW can definitely stand to improve.

I graduated in May of 2017 with my MSW from the Jane Addams College of Social Work. The program, much like most things in life, is what you make of it. For those who are determined to learn, there is a wealth of knowledge waiting for you. For those who are determined to cut corners, there is definitely an opportunity to earn the "C" necessary to receive a diploma.
Every institution has areas for improvement, JACSW included. Taking everything into account, JACSW met my expectations. In my experience, the college is receptive to issues raised by students and actively works to improve the program content and structure. I would recommend the MSW program.
