"Just got scolded like a 5 year old by a staff member who assumed my kids and I were "hanging out" in the conference room". As I exited the restroom, clearly drying my hands with a paper towel as we headed for the door she says, "You can't be in here...you are supposed to wait in the lobby, everything you are doing is on camera and is being recorded."

As she yelled at us, you could see the frustration in her face as if we were somehow disturbing her ability to work, not once but apparently twice because my daughter said she told her she could not wait in the conference room while my other daughter and I were still in the restroom. She then had the audacity to say "sorry" that she was kicking us out, but not sorry for the tone of voice you just took with my kids and I.

The look I gave the staff member as I walked out of the conference room could have cut paper. As much as I wanted to address her, I chose to keep my composure and just leave.

I did not want to further disrupt the learning environment for the students who were still receiving tutoring eventhough she just did with her behavior. She literally came out of an office across the room just to come over and fuss at my kids and I, twice. I can only assume she was having a bad day.
Bottom line is this was completely unnecessary and had this staffer waiting 15 seconds, even 10 seconds more, we would have been out of the building, no scolding needed.

How do you talk to your customers like that? I have put two kids through Sylvan's curriculum over the years and this is how I'm treated for simply cutting through the conference room to take my child to the restroom, just like we've done numerous times in the past, with no problem whatsoever? But, today it was a problem? We've spent thousands of dollars with your business for tutoring our kids.

I hate giving backhanded compliments but in this case, "Great tutoring center, but the customer service needs a little work."

So we entered our son in sylvan's in May because he was struggling in school. They came highly recommend; however, after 8 months his progress seemed to declining further vs improving. It seems as if the group environment they use where giving them treats for five minutes of success doesn't really work. In my opinion if you just want an afterschool baby sitter this is the place to be but if you want your child to succeed you may want to look for a different tutor/company.
