We've been attending Sylvan for just about a month and have already seen an improvement in reading comprehension based on weekly school reports! My 4th grade son has been attending Sylvan for math for just about 3 months. He is more confident with his math abilities. I see a noticeable improvement in his ability to do basic and multi-step questions. He processes the information with more automaticity and accuracy. He is also happy to go; he enjoys it. He jumps out of the car with a smile and says, “Bye mom-see you in two hours.” I am certainly happy with his progress. I am glad to have chosen Sylvan in Olivette.

This experience for me is the best because as a child I only thought rich people children attended this program..As I mature in life I became a wife and mother and with that life be life’n ok..I’m glad to learn that Sylvan learning center caters to my family needs and the big thing is we’re not rich but guess who son is a part of the sylvan learning family ..Ours so don’t hesitate..This your sign to do it!!

I was super hesitant about starting out our 2nd grader at Sylvan. He can be stubborn and put his foot down about new ideas and places. I told him we needed to try it and get some help for reading. I have never once had to fight him on going to Sylvan. He always has his hopes for what table he will be sat at and even when it isn’t the one he wants he goes willingly. I’m so impressed by their individual approach and that my son looks forward to going each time. I see a confidence boost in him already and I also just heard from his school teacher that she has seen improvement in this short time. Thank you Sylvan!

I brought my child in for an assessment yesterday, and I did not expect to leave feeling worse than I did when I brought him in. I initially chose Sylvan for tutoring because it is a household name. They have been in the community for years, and I felt comfortable with this choice. In order to begin tutoring, my child had to first take an assessment to determine his specific learning plan. He took the assessment in the room with the director of education. After an hour and twenty minutes had passed, she left the room and went into someone else's office. I could see her swinging her arms in frustration. Soon after, she called me into a room and asked me if my child had ADHD or an IEP. She proceeded to tell me that the amount of time that he is taking to complete the assessment is "unheard of" and that it has never taken a child that long to complete an assessment. The way that she approached the situation made me feel horrible. Imagine knowing that your child needs additional help, and taking them to a place that is supposed to offer that help, only to be made to feel hopeless. When the test ended, she proceeded to ask invasive questions about my child's educational history in front of him. One of the goals of Sylvan learning center is to instill confidence, and her attitude suggested to me that her biases and assumptions may be conveyed to the individuals that will be tutoring my child. As an educator myself, I would never speak to a parent the way that she spoke to me. She could have easily said "The test is taking longer than expected, why don't we wrap up the reading and reschedule for the math portion? And if you don't mind I'd like to schedule some time to talk more about his educational background, before we begin tutoring." I have decided to take my business elsewhere, as I did not feel that it was a safe environment for my child's confidence.

While I don't specialize in early elementary literacy, as a lifelong educator, I knew my child needed additional support to help her develop emerging literacy skills. Sylvan has made a huge difference in giving our daughter the confidence boost she needed to make significant growth in her kindergarten reading assessment. She knows she has a team of people who are supporting and cheering her on in her learning journey: Sylvan tutors, her beloved teacher, her reading interventionist, and her parents.
