Sylvan really personalizes their programs for your child! My son’s improvement from day 1 to the end of the program was unbelievable. The tutors and staff always went above and beyond and exceeded all expectations! I have definitely recommended anyone and everyone who has asked where my son got the help he needed to Sylvan in Missouri City. If you’re still debating getting your child the help they need, look no more this is where it’s at. Definitely returning if and when my son needs help.

Sylvan Learning Center of Missouri City has been a huge blessing for my son. He was diagnosed with a reading disability by his school district. After enrolling him here at Sylvan his grades went from D's to A's and B's. His reading level is improving a lot and more importantly so is his confidence and level of motivation. Missouri City Sylvan was great for us. Mr. Wheeler, the receptionist, and the tutors were all knowledgable and respectful. They were encouraging in the midst of the academic stressors kids and families experience these days. They were so kind that even after we had been gone a year, a Sylvan tutor stopped me at a local store to greet me and ask how my student was doing. Our child loved the curriculum, gained confidence, and improved scores.

This review is about the Sylvan Learning center in Missouri city. To be even more precise, the one located on highway 6 close to Sienna. In searching for math assistance for my daughter, I called Mr. Wheeler, the franchise owner of this center. He immediately scheduled my daughter for a session. After this session that lasted less than 30 minutes followed by 30 minutes of persuasion from Mr. Wheeler to patronize his center, I handed over my credit card to be charged for a month of once weekly tutoring, believing that at the price quoted per lesson we were getting one-on-one assistance. I was then surprised to find that it was not only group sessions, but all the kids of various ages, covering various subjects were all gathered together in one room. I raised my concerns for noise and poor concentration to the franchise owner, but he stated this was no problem. At this point he had already quickly charged my card. I was also concerned that though this center is in close proximity to my daughter's school the director/owner, who stated he had other students from this school, did not have the school's subject syllabus/curriculum. Needless to say, I was disconcerted and decided to do some research comparing this particular center to others. I came to the conclusion this was not the center for us. I called Mr. Wheeler and requested a refund. He put me off for 2 weeks, stating he would call me following review of his accounts. I waited in vain for that call. After a month of waiting, I called again, he stated he was not in the office and would call me the following day. After two more calls were made and resulted in the same evasive tactics, I finally demanded he review my account on the phone and process my refund. He then proceeded to inform me of a detail in the contract requiring two weeks notice prior to cancellation. Without a stomach for arguing, I promptly agreed to pay two weeks of tutoring my daughter never received, along with an enrollment fee, a total of $170. He then proceeded to try to charge me for an assessment test that my daughter never took. I refused to pay for this. He then promised a refund check in the mail. As a result of his previous evasive tactics, I decided it would be best to go into the center and pick the check. On getting there Mr. Wheeler proceeded to inform me that the refund would be less than what he told me over the phone. When I disagreed with him, he told me I could get a lawyer if I wanted. He then went further to state that this was "the problem with doing business with black people". Needless to say, I was shocked to hear this, particularly as this man is African-American himself. He went even further to threaten to sue me if I followed through with my promise to write an honest review of my experience at his center. My recommendation is stay away from this particular Sylvan center. I found this franchise owner is not a man of his word, not to mention the disconcerting prejudice/bias he displayed.

I was very disappointed with Mr. Wheeler is is the owner of this center. I paid for evaluation on my son's English performance which was 150 dollars. Mr. Wheeler wanted to sell me a package of tutoring at 50 dollars an hour for next six months. We are talking thousands of dollars. He explained to test them along the way to check the progress.

My budget was summer 2015 which was 300 dollars to marginally improve my son's English performance. No test after was offered without paying another 150 dollars. I asked my son's if they showed him a new technique to write and he said no. I was not happy and did not sign him up again. I ended up working with my son in the summer and showed him examples of PowerPoint and technical reports I do for a living and showed him how to outline and develop a report.

My son Santiago improved is grades with the efforts of Teachers at Quail Valley Elementary and so some of my help. Mr Wheeler has no interest in helping you child but pocking your hard earned money without showing results.

My daughter is in 2nd grade and has been struggling with math since the middle of 1st. We tried other tutoring services but never received favorable results. However, since starting at Sylvan 6wks ago I see positive changes. Her confidence in math has improved tremendously and she is beginning to master concepts she previously struggled with. I would definitely recommend this center.

I have a seven year old grandbaby and she was having trouble reading among other things related to school. I was very impressed the way her understanding changed for the better. Correct pronunciation of all alphabet, which made her understanding of the related words much easier to pronounce. I am very satisfied with Sylvan Learning Center. I will not hesitate to call on you again...Thank You So Much.

If I could give them a ZERO I would. John Wheeler is terrible management. My sister was enrolled for tutoring in December for help with finals and went to one session and the teacher didn’t know anything about her math because her math was “too advanced”. The owner John Wheeler, said that the teacher is certified but that the math was too advanced (which is not our problem). We have been trying to get a refund since January and he’s been giving us the run around because he took $300 for nothing. No services were provided except for the one session and the teacher didn’t know the math. He’s very unprofessional and I would no recommend this location to anyone. He also threatened that if I posted a review he would reply claiming what I was saying was not true. This is him agreeing that the math was too advanced for my sister which proves services weren’t provided. This is also him reaching out after tutoring was needed in December, offering an online session because his “college teacher” was not back in town, which is not what we wanted and was not helpful.

He will take your money and not provide you with the services you need/request.
