My son, currently in 3rd Grade, used to hate reading. He struggled through Kinder, 1st Grade. During his 2nd Grade, I have decided to hire a tutor/teacher; however, there has not been much improvement. After doing research, I have decided to enroll him in Sylvan Learning of HB. They did initial assessment and create a plan based on where he is vs where he should be. He has improved beyond imagination!!! Boy that hated reading, loves reading anything now!

At first I was skeptical of how much Sylvan and the staff would be able to help our daughter. She was entering school behind other kids. They gave their initial evaluation and drew a customized plan to get her to a certain level before school began and progress throughout the year. Fast forward 7 months and she is not only on track with her work, but her confidence in her work has dramatically improved! Sylvan has helped my daughter and my son greatly. We have looked into many tutoring programs and Sylvan was the best fit for my children. Ms. Maddie and Ms. Pattie are amazing teachers that genuinely care for my children’s academic success. Mrs. Regina helped my son learn how to read and improve his fluency in reading. My daughter was behind in reading and she improved so much after tutoring with Ms. Maddie and Ms. Pattie. My kids also love how there is a point system and they get to choose a toy after obtaining points. I am so grateful that there are amazing teachers at this place and Mrs. Pamela knows how to manage it well. I highly recommend Sylvan to anyone looking to improve their child’s reading or math skills.

Sylvan HB is an exceptional tutoring center. Not only do they have amazing tutors, they have the best staff. Everyone has always been flexible and accommodating to our needs and always available to answer questions or address concerns. They really do care about your family!!! We have seen such a great improvement with our daughter's performance at school.

For a few years now, I suspected the current wisdom in teaching reading and writing may not have been helping my son to actually learn either ability very well. So, when my son's state testing fell below standard last spring, I knew either he wasn't working for school, or school wasn't working for him. I think it may have been a little of both. I needed to find some help to get him on track and a friend recommended Sylvan of Huntington Beach to me.

Sylvan tested him in August and we found out he was 2 years behind grade level in Language Arts! No wonder those core grades were sliding backwards! A goal was set to close the gap within a year so he could begin high school with grade level ability in reading and writing, as well as provide homework support while that gap was being closed. He began Sylvan's program the week before school started.

I am so happy with our decision! I have to say that everyone I have met in this office has made it a welcoming and relaxed place to go. Lauren, our director, is kind, accommodating, and a great advocate for our son. Homework is getting done and productive study habits are being learned. Even sweeter than that, my son actually LIKES going! He likes his tutors (shout out to Patty and Naomi) and loves that his homework is DONE when he leaves.

Already, Sylvan's reading program has produced great results! This month's evaluation shows only a few more skills to master and that 2 year gap is closed. So, if you are wondering or concerned about your child's education, please follow your intuition and have an evaluation at Sylvan Learning of Huntington Beach. We now have a program that works for our kid, and a kid that will work for the program!

We first came to Sylvan because my daughter won enrollment in the LEGO robotics class through her school. I signed her and her sister up for that class. They did so well and enjoyed it so much that when it came time to find a new tutor for school, my husband and I felt that the repoire the girls had with the staff was so wonderful that we needed to look into doing the tutoring here. Best decision we could have made! The girls are doing so well and they actually enjoy going! The staff is wonderful. Simply put; Its just been a all around good experience for our family and I highly recommend this Sylvan center!

The best decision I have made regarding my son’s education. I definitely regret not enrolling him in a private school early on. But with Sylvan, my son has a chance of not only succeeding, but also excelling in all fields. Holly and all the staff genuinely care about your child. They go the extra mile to guarantee that your child is getting the best. My son loves going to Sylvan. He actually asked if he can only go there! He didn’t want to go to his school anymore . That blew me away! My son was failing all of his classes. I knew it wasn’t all his fault. He is smart. He lost the love of learning in the new school. Thankfully, the teachers at Sylvan reignited his love to learn and the spark is back in his eyes. I also enrolled my daughter. Thank you guys for all that you do. Keep up the good work. I originally posted a 5 star review to get a discount on my services at this business. Everyone was nice, and friendly and my daughter enjoyed her tutoring. However, after around $5,000 and many hours of tutoring my daughter tested LOWER than when she first started. I was not given a reason why she did not process, and ended my program a few weeks early. From what I could see she was on an iPad program in a small group supervised by a teacher. Although everyone was nice, and the program is well organized it felt like we wasted a lot of time and money because my daughter did not show any improvement even though we were going 3x a week for many weeks.
