The method of instruction is not about repetitive work but introducing concepts and using those concepts to enable the child gain understanding in a practical way. We are so glad our son joined Sylvan. He is more intelligent. I also appreciate that they have progress check ins so you can see your child's progress in the program.

My son had been doing so-so in Reading/Language Arts in 4th grade and when we got his STAAR test results just before starting 5th grade, we saw a big decline and knew we needed some extra help for him. We found Sylvan, took the initial assessment and saw he was just barely at a 5th grade level. Our hope and goal was for him to get ahead of where he needed to be and help build some of his confidence. We started going to Sylvan once a week for a two hour session for Reading. After about a month we saw his grades getting better, his vocabulary expanding and more confidence. After about three months, we started to incorporate Writing sessions. In almost six months time, our son mastered all the 5th grade level topics for Reading and was well into some 6th grade topics. He has gained a better understanding and his grades have started to reflect that. There is more consistency in his grades and he has more confidence. Appreciate all the tutors and staff at Sylvan and have to give a special shout-out to Mr. Antonio. Thank you all for your help. Highly recommend Sylvan for extra practice for your child and to catch them up or get them a little ahead of their grade level!

The Sylvan Learning Center’s ACT study course was the most important investment and decision we have ever made as it relates to our son’s college education.

Our son had his sights set on the University of Maryland, with one of the most prestigious business schools in the country, and with students who score an average of 28-34 on their ACT. Before starting the study course at Sylvan Learning Center in Cypress, TX last summer, he had a score of 24. We wondered if the price would be worth it, and whether the class would get his score high enough to even be considered for acceptance into Maryland. Natalie Hawkins, the director, as well as her staff bent over backwards to make sure our son succeeded. They worked hard with him during class, and also guided him on how to study materials and take online practice tests outside of class, too. He finished the course, scored a 28, and got accepted into the University of Maryland!

We can’t thank Sylvan Learning Center enough for everything Natalie Hawkins and her team did for our son. His entire life and future have been changed for the better because of Sylvan’s dedicated team who spent one summer with our son.
