The teachers really make or break this place half of the professors I’ve had almost made me want to drop out and multiple people removed themselves from the classes because of the teacher and other teachers were AMAZING. If you are enrolling into a program here you seem to get great teachers who care about your success but just taking gen ed classes the teachers are really hit or miss. Cheaper and more accessible than SIUE though.

I graduated over 30 years ago. Really enjoyed going there. Great instructors. Used the GI bill to get my degree. The state payed my tuition. I made out like a bandit (money wise). It would have been a great experience even if I had to foot the bill. Tuition in 1975 was $11.00 per semester hour ($33.00 per course). Won't see that again.

I got two degrees here in electrical engineering and computer engineering. I went there after my service with the Marines and my schooling was paid with the GI Bill. I had a great experience with great instructors. I went to this and the Granite City campus and among my instructors was one who worked for NASA at one point. Top notch people are here ready to teach the next generation and you don't have to go to some overpriced ivy League school to see them

My daughter attends and overall am satisfied with the instructors and the quality of education. However it is more than frustrating when as a parent your purchase the books listed on the syllabus only to find out the first week of class that the instructor changed his mind and now we have to go purchase/rent a different book and will not be able to return exchange the original one. Instructors need to understand that books are not inexpensive and they need to make sure that what they list is what they intend to use. She is a freshman and it has happened both semesters. If nothing else SWIC needs to have a policy in place that addresses situations like this.

My son has loved his first year at SWIC. He learned so much for the field he studied. Since my husband's career is in the same field that my son is studying, my husband was impressed with the class choices and studies (giving a double thumbs up for preparing our son for the field he works). The teachers were also great. The materials of study were on target. But, I, as a parent, was especially impressed with the excellent academic advising, financially assistance advising, and the other support system members. All of them are excellent in knowledge, kind in helping, and humble and sincere (hard to find today). I would give this school a five review because it is well deserved.

Poor communication amongst several departments. The school wants to hear your opinion and what is wrong and what is right, however, in truth they only want to hear what is good and refuse to tend to what is wrong. how are you supposed to fix what is wrong if you don't hear both the good and bad? Getting someone to respond back to you can be exhausting. The dean and the president of the school, even when asking for a meeting, will not respond. How can you truly help educate when you do everything to avoid making the experience of going to school or coming back to school a good one? Students are afraid to speak up because the instructors have the ability to retaliate with their grade for their transcript. I have offered to present numerous people, present students and previous students to the school who would love to have a conversation, yet the school ignores that option. it's quite sad and concerning when this school has the ability to be phenomenal, yet the management is horrendous.

Edited: In response to the school reaching out to me today. I have reached out to you all. Numerous times, numerous ways, numerous people, numerous surveys and nothing. I am not a millennial and I do not believe in posting stuff straight off the bat to social media without giving the person, business or institution the opportunity to have a conversation and fix it first. How are you supposed to fix something that you do not know about? This is the reason why I take an old school approach. I have stated an emails whom I have had or tried to have conversations with. Essentially you all have my name and number. You all know how to get ahold of me put some effort into it if you truly want to have a conversation.

As you can tell, I do not have a problem putting my name to this. I have nothing to hide. You all do. Jennifer

Excellent bang for the buck. Quality campus police. It's clean, it looks professional. Teaching staff is generally good, in every department. The success center is phenomenal, and the administrative staff are helpful and professional. This place runs like a well manicured machine. Every idea of community college you have in your head? Toss it out right now. Come here for two years, get your general education requirements complete, and easily transfer to a four year. SWIC also has a phenomenal nursing program, as well as a great HVAC and Welding program.

I honestly love my school! It isn't the biggest college around, but they do have some pretty great instructors who take their time to make sure that you learn and are prepared to take the next step in your academic career. I have also started valuable, lifelong friendships that I would not have made if I did not attend SWIC. I'm a non-traditional student, like many that are returning to school these days. I believe that SWIC is a fostering environment whether you are an older or new student, active and reserved duty military personnel and military vets. There are numerous degree programs, lots of transfer ops; it's just a great school all around.
