I worked at Sonnets as a teacher assistant for the Pre-K 4s, and while I initially took on the role with high hopes, my experience left much to be desired. Unfortunately, I found that my job duties were not clearly communicated upfront, leading to confusion and frustration. What was supposed to be a supportive role quickly turned into an overwhelming combination of responsibilities, essentially requiring me to take on two full-time jobs. This felt unfair, especially given the expectations placed on me without proper support.

Furthermore, I often felt that there was a lack of respect for assistants compared to full teachers, which created a disconnect and a sense of undervaluation. I also struggled with a difficult coworker, and, unfortunately, the Director’s biased treatment of new versus long-standing staff members made it even more challenging.

One of my biggest concerns was the level of professionalism and safety standards. I witnessed a teacher who had been with the school for many years behaving unprofessionally with students, which was alarming. While this teacher no longer works there, it raised questions about the school’s overall standards for staff conduct and safety, especially regarding the functionality of in-room cameras.

Additionally, the lack of attention to basic cleanliness was shocking, especially for the high tuition fees. Teachers were expected to do everything from cleaning to restocking supplies, which should have been handled by dedicated cleaning staff. It’s concerning that such a high-cost school would neglect these basic needs. Many toys were outdated, and it was disheartening to see the students in an environment that felt neglected in terms of resources and maintenance.

I hope the school takes these concerns seriously for the benefit of future students and staff. As much as I wanted to contribute to a positive learning environment, the working conditions and lack of support ultimately led me to leave. I would recommend considering other options for childcare or education based on my experience.”

We loved Sonnets Academy so much! My son attended West Loop Sonnets since he was 4 months and the best decision we made. The staff is incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and caring. We absolutely loved everything about it! The best decision we made and I would highly recommend.

I could not recommend Sonnets West Loop highly enough. Our son was there from 4.5M-18M in the young infant, older infant & toddler rooms and he had such an amazing experience, learning so much. They have a strong educational program, excellent meal plan and the staff is so on point. They know you, your children, your extended family and care deeply about the development of your child. We recently moved out of state and the hardest part of leaving was saying goodbye to Sonnets, they have set the bar way too high for all other daycares.

Sonnets, West Loop has been an extension of our family for the past two years. Both our kids were enrolled there. One from birth and the other from 2 years on. I cannot begin to describe how amazing everyone is...from the teachers, assistants to the directors everyone makes Sonnets special. I loved how much each teacher poured their passion into teaching and caring for my children, while also supporting me through tough parenting times. (e.g. potty training & developmental milestones) I highly recommend Sonnets Academy to anyone seeking care for their children with a focus on early childhood education!

We happened upon Sonnets WL when I was pregnant with my first, 4 years ago. Sonnets had come highly recommended, but was one of many recommended daycare centers we toured. The second I set foot into the building I knew this was the place for my son. The teachers seemed happy (and had long tenures), the children were engaged (and magically cleaning up toys without complaint), and the directors were informative and enthusiastic.

We started at Sonnets officially when our son was 3 months old and have had nothing short of the best experience. Every teacher and room he has been in has helped shaped him into a smart, funny, confident, and caring young boy. They helped potty train, taught him all of his letters and numbers, and helped him transition to big brotherhood a year and half ago. Now with two boys at Sonnets, our love for the school has grown. Our second son has had 90% of the same teachers our first son had, which is rare in the daycare world, and speaks volumes for the way the school cares for and treats its employees.

One of the things I love most about the school is the communication they have with parents. We have always felt like there was ample two-way communication between us and our son's teachers. They celebrate our son's successes and bring our kids' challenges to our attention. If we are working on something at home, they collaborate with us to implement and reinforce in school. We feel so fortunate to have found the right fit for our family in this regard.

Side note: for those of you who have children with allergies, Sonnets is nut-free, but has been also been accommodating and incredibly cautious with our son's egg allergy. He is anaphylactic when exposed to eggs and we feel like Sonnets has taken every precaution to keep him safe, but also included. (For example if a birthday treat was being offered or they were doing a cooking lesson, all ingredients were sent to us for review and we were offered an egg-free option).

We have no local family in Chicago, so having teachers that acted like extensions of our family has been so important to us. We made the decision to move out east, closer to family, and one of the things we will miss most is our Sonnets family.

Our son was at Sonnets West Loop for 3 years. We consider all of the staff and teachers at Sonnets our family. We started in the preschool room and spent 2 years in Pre-k and we feel like our son had such a great foundation there. When testing into kindergartens, our son scored 94+ on reading, writing and math. We really believe that has so much to do with the fun and engaging curriculum at Sonnets. I don't think we could have picked a better place for our child to learn and grow. It also helped that Ms. Tameka, Ms. Andrea and all the teachers were always so accomodating and flexible when it came to all of our concerns. We started kindergarten this year at a school of our choice but still remain in contact with so many Sonnets families--the community we built was just one of the many reasons we felt so comfortable and happy with our choice. We will miss Sonnets but know that we have friends right in the neighborhood whenever we plan to visit.

Our daughter attended Sonnet's for 2 years and it was fantastic all around. The curriculum for 2's through 4's was great, we really felt as though she was learning a lot. What really stood out to us was the quality of the teachers and administrators. They were excellent communicators, professional, and genuinely love being around children.
