Terrible Experience with Sofa Tutor - Beware of Overcharging and Poor Service

I recently had an extremely disappointing experience with Sofa Tutor, and I feel compelled to share my story to warn others about their unethical practices. I signed up for a seven-day free trial with the intention of trying out their tutoring services. However, my experience quickly turned into a nightmare.

To begin with, I canceled the services within the seven-day free trial period, only to discover later that Sofa Tutor had charged my account a whopping $300 on 12/23. When I reached out to inquire about this exorbitant charge, I was told that they had accidentally created two accounts in my name, leading to the overcharge.

While they acknowledged the error, the resolution they offered was far from satisfactory. Sofa Tutor claimed they were willing to give me only half of the refund and expected me to accept this minimal compensation during the Christmas holiday. The charge itself was egregious, considering that the app's regular monthly fee is $29.99, and I had the app for less than seven days.

Even if I had used the app for a more extended period, the fact that they deducted such a substantial amount from my account within three months of usage is unacceptable. Sofa Tutor's attitude appears to be one of arrogance, as they seem to believe they are untouchable.

It's important to note that Sofa Tutor is located in Berlin, Germany, but conveniently registered in Wilmington, Delaware. I have taken the matter further by filing complaints with the BBB, Verbraucherzentrale-Berlin, and the Delaware Attorney General. My hope is that others will be spared from falling victim to this unscrupulous company.

I strongly advise against giving Sofa Tutor your credit card information. Their app, which I found to be subpar at best, comes with the risk of being charged for services you haven't used. Moreover, their refusal to offer a full refund of YOUR money only adds to the frustration and disappointment. Don't be fooled by this company's seemingly attractive services – they are not worth the trouble. Steer clear of Sofa Tutor to save yourself from a potential financial and emotional ordeal.

It’s disappointing to see that even after all the back-and-forth communication I had with your team, which included providing detailed information such as my credit card number and specific details about my subscription, you are now claiming you cannot associate my Google username with my account.

This response seems to deflect responsibility rather than address the core issue: that your company charged my card $300 in December 2023 and failed to refund it despite my repeated attempts to resolve the matter directly with your customer service team. Your request for my "username" now appears to be more about discrediting my review than resolving the issue.

Warning to Potential Customers:
Please be cautious when dealing with Sofatutor. My experience has been marked by poor customer service, a lack of transparency, and difficulty in resolving a simple refund issue. I have already filed complaints with the Pennsylvania and New York State Boards regarding this matter. I strongly advise others to consider these issues before subscribing.

I will continue to stand by my review, which accurately reflects my experience.

This is a scam!!!!! I attempted to cancel a couple of times and they said they would not refund the money that was charged. Then the next month came around and I have documentation that I canceled and they still took money out of my account. They said it doesn't matter that I canceled because they still are charging me. I never even opened this software, don't want to it and never will want it. CONSUMERS BEWARE!!!!!!!

Would give zero stars if I could. My daughter wasn't interested in this for very long at all so I tried to cancel & was told I was unable to do this as I was outside the trial period. I wasn't even aware I'd entered into a yearly contract. I thought it could be terminated immediately. I received an email back threatening legal action. Do not touch this company. They are scam artists!

I have homeschooled my son within an online learning platform through K-1st grade. I am disabled and unfortunately, given the circumstances, my son missed quite much or had to play catch up within an online public school. This in turn, unfortunately caused some issues with compliance within the rules of online public learning. I was advised by the school counselor; given that my health is not the best and being disabled; I went or had to go to the doctors very often which I could not miss or change. I was suggested to do traditional homeschooling with my son since im always home as well as disabled. This gave me not only time but the ability to be my sons teacher. With creating my own curriculum of what I found was important subjects for my son to learn. And, homeschooling traditionally allows me to go outside of the traditional grade levels unlike most online public schools that have cap limits on learning at higher levels. I have now traditionally homeschooled my son for 2 yrs now; he is 9 years old and with Sofa tutor, other supplemental learning programs; I am now able to teach my son higher grade levels that fit his learning pace. Right now we are teaching some high school leveled curriculum and having sofa tutor really helps my son explore more.

I apologize for the long novel of a review but, if you're looking to supplement more to a standard curriculum or if youre just looking to use an extra program aimed at leveled learning, this program helps. Not only do you have tons of practice modes, assessments, and fun challenges; this program also offers more help by allowing access to a teacher/counselor online if your student/child gets stuck or needs more input on how to break down the work. I enjoy SofaTutor and place to continue to use this program for further learning as well. This program also allows the parent/teacher teaching at home to learn along side your student as well.

This was scam continued debit my account 10x in 1hr $191 even the card they said they was prepaid. The my bank locked ? my card cuz of fraud. All this within 1hr of signing up, I've deleted the account.
