It’s impressive how much material they were able to cover in just 16 weeks. The program is very well organized, and the staff are top-notch. The instructors consistently went above and beyond, answering all questions thoroughly and even staying late to provide additional help when needed. They did an exceptional job of delivering daily lectures in a hybrid/remote environment, ensuring a smooth learning experience. After 4 years of reaping the rewards from attending SD, it's time to pay homage. Pure excellence in the world of coding academies. I attended the winter cohort of 2020. Looking back on the curriculum, it was exceptionally well put together. Everyone wants to know the latest and greatest tech to code but, it's unlikely that as a new dev you're going to be working on a brand new squeaky clean app. You're probably going to be handed spaghetti legacy and that's why the education from SD is so valuable. They teach you the fundamentals of coding so that you're prepared for anything thrown your way and then they work you into the latest frameworks and coding practices. I really admired the patience of the professors and their knowledge is invaluable. They were simply the best. Even if you're working late on a project, someone is there or easily reachable by email. I noticed after a couple weeks that each instructor had their specialty. One was strong in DB architecture, one in backend, one in front end etc. This is really what you want when you're trying to digest the whole stack in 4 months because it allows you to get deep into each area.

With that said, the program is difficult and demanding. You will do an hour or hours of coding homework after a full day of coding theory every day and if you don't... well, you will. If you're worried about not being good at math, coding isn't math, it's logic. So, if you're worried about math, don't be. The facilities are very comfortable and they are appropriately situated near the tech center. The most important thing that you should be researching with a coding school are the professors and the curriculum. And those are covered above.

Job prep is thorough. We were given material on what to expect at each stage of the interview process, quizzed on questions that would almost certainly be asked, quizzed again, then we did mock job interview phone calls. They helped us build our resume and start sending applications toward the end. A couple of us even received phone interviews before the program ended. We also had company recruiters come to view our final project and had an opportunity to chat with them afterwards.

After you graduate it's really your time to shine and you have to view every connection you make as an opportunity. I sent out over 200 applications and finally took a contract position to build a website for a small transportation business in Denver. When I finished I went to work for a couple more companies until I was hired on with NCR during the pandemic. I accredit my ability to land a 6 figure job 7 months after starting my career in tech, and in the middle of a pandemic entirely to the preparation and education I received at SD. I've worked remotely ever since, travelling the world for the past 3 years and I work with a great team that's located all over the US. I couldn't recommend a better school. Thanks SD.

Skill Distillery is great. The instructors go out of their way to make themselves available and help. The projects build in complexity in a logical way and I enjoyed learning older ways of building apps before going straight to what is current. It really helped my overall understanding. Rather than simply learning syntax, we spent a large amount of time learning the underpinnings of Java and the other languages and tools we learned. If you want to do more than just copy code, if you want to really understand what you are doing and get a good base level of knowledge that you can build on in the future, Skill Distillery is the place.

Skill Distillery is an amazing experience with compassionate dedicated instructors who will get you to the finish line when you trust in yourself and the process. While at times it feels like drinking from a fire hose trying to learn 4 years of schooling in 4 months should be impossible but SD seems to have it down to a science and while you may not be an expert when you graduate you will most definitely have what you need to compete for those entry level jobs and even have experience and knowledge that most college graduates will not have. I can not recommend Skill Distillery enough if you are wanting to become a full stack or back end software developer.
