My 6th grader just returned from her first school trip with SNJ. For the most part she enjoyed the experience and said the staff was friendly (even if not everyone was always engaged), however the 3 star rating is due to the food (quite awful apparently) and the accommodations (beds with a flimsy and uncomfortable mattress). I'm assuming that they are cutting corners in the above areas so that they can continue to subsidize a sizable number of students who cannot afford to pay in keeping with their mission as a nonprofit. While that's certainly admirable, $475 is still a hefty amount for 2 days and 2 nights of poor quality food for our children and where lunch is not even provided after arrival on the first day.
