We drove to Rusty Spurr from Dillon, and it was 1000% worth the drive! We pulled in and it was starting to storm, so the owners welcomed us into a smaller building with a warm fireplace to sit out the weather. The property, the owners, the horses and the trail guide-we had Autumn- made the entire experience amazing, not to mention we could see Wyoming from the top of the property. Autumn was very engaging and spoke to all of us while riding, but was very attentive to her job and making sure we were all comfortable. We can’t wait to come back, and we all highly recommend Rusty Spurr!

Our 3 hour ride at Rusty Spur Ranch was awesome! Bailey was our wrangler and besides being extremely knowledgeable and experienced, she really helped my daughters (11 & 13) learn how to steer and ride better throughout the ride in a fun and warm way. The mountain views were gorgeous, each one more beautiful than the last and there were way more aspen groves and pine trees than I was expecting after driving up through the scrub brush, so we had a mix of all the scenery and some nice shade at points too. The horses were excellently trained and we had an amazing ride. We’ve been riding a few places in Gilpin and Summit County, and the drive up to Grand County was totally worth it as this was the best experience we’ve had so far. Highly recommend.

We did the 2 hour ride with Brandy as our guide and had an amazing time. She took us to the most beautiful spots and there were very few spaces where we had to walk single file. The horses were healthy and well cared for.

Amazing family experience thanks to the wonderful family and staff at Rusty Spur Ranch! Connie was very helpful over the phone, and John, our guide, was very attentive to the group on the 2 hour tour while offering outstanding care and support to our 8 year old daughter who had never ridden a horse outside of pony rides in an amusement park setting. The fact that the rider gets to personalize the ride through the aspen groves and mountainside truly gives it an authentic and very special feel. This is all a testament to the outstanding bond that the family that runs the ranch has for their horses, grounds, and staff. The experience is tailored from the beginning to pair a horse with the rider that will make the ride an optimal encounter with the beautiful surroundings. It was truly a wonderful experience.

I did the cattle drive for my birthday this past weekend and when I say I don’t have enough good things to say about this experience I truly mean it!! I’ve been doing trail rides for the past few years and was originally looking at the 2 hr ride here when I found the cattle drive. If you want an experience like no other than this is it, and worth every single dollar paid. Bailey was our guide - super welcoming and great at teaching the ins/outs of cattle work. The owner even joined us halfway through and he was very open to answering everyone’s questions. Seeing the changing leaves mid September was the icing on the cake. My horse was Poca and she is the most perfect working girl I’ve ever met <3 if you get her as your horse give her some love from me!

WOW! What an amazing experience!!! As an experienced rider I was looking for a place to ride that was not your typical touristy nose to tail trail ride during my month say in the Colorado mountains. I definitely found what I was looking for at the Rusty Spurr Ranch!
Han, Connie and their staff are the real deal. Excellent horseman with an emphasis on true horsemanship. From the moment you arrive you can feel their love and respect for all of their animals and pride of the land they are on.
As the saying goes a horse's attitude and happiness is a reflection of their owners, and these horses are truly happy. Relaxed but attentive. Not once did I experience or see the other horses holding their neck low with their ears pinned back AKA the salty horse syndrome lol. Each horse was relaxed but attentive to each riders commands when asked.
When you book a ride or cattle drive ride you can rest assured you are in excellent hands, and will be put on a rock solid horse suited to your riding abilities.
Han was an excellent at explaining and teaching us the art of herding cattle. In my 20+ years of riding many different disciplines, I had never done a cattle drive but always wanted to, this did not disappoint.
If you want to go on a Colorado Cowboy Safari I highly recommend the Rusty Spurr Ranch. Han, Connie, and their staff have created an truly unique and authentic experience. Thank you!

Very wonderful experience! They manage the line between safety and letting you experience some autonomy with the horses appropriately. The horses also appeared to be well taken care of. We had a great time!

We had an absolutely amazing time on the 2 hour ride with Butch and Sassy. Definitely not your average trail riding business. You get the freedom to ride as you please. No awful robotic nose to tail ride. The horses here are a joy to ride and aren’t afraid to show their unique personalities, something that is rare in a trail riding business. And the owners pair you up perfectly with the right horse for you! When arriving to the facility, we were greeted with a huge smile and welcomed by a couple of their adorable dogs. They helped us mount and off we went! Our ranger was super friendly and gave us our freedom to ride where we please while also keeping safety in mind at all times. Beautiful scenery with even more beautiful horses. This place is definitely a gem in Colorado and I would love to return one day.
