We love Ripple Effect Martial Arts!! We live being in the Johnstown school and can’t say enough great things about our experience, the instructors, the program and the community here. My daughter has grown exponentially in her self-confidence and her leadership skills. The instructors have supported her both in her taekwondo journey but also in her activities outside of Ripple. This is a true family and personal growth environment!

Ripple Effect Martial Arts has been an excellent experience for me and my daughter. I have been practicing martial arts for about 7 years in total and have earned two black belts, while my daughter is 3 years old and joined the Little Ripples program. Here are some takeaways and why I would recommend the school:

Pros:

- Material increases in difficulty at a sensible pace for new students. Students are encouraged to master the fundamentals at low ranks rather than being overwhelmed with material.
- Instructors are available for one-on-one lessons to help students who are struggling or want extra practice. As far as I know, this benefit is always included in the price.
- Certain physical fitness goals and material mastery are expected in order to earn a new belt.
- Students are given individualized feedback after each test.
- Expenses that are billed separately at some martial arts schools are included in your membership at Ripple Effect, specifically testing fees.
- Positive lessons about discipline and respect are taught to students. My daughter has grown a great deal as a person, in spite of her age, in just a couple of months, and can definitely punch and kick a lot harder! Her focus has increased substantially, and she has brought the “yes sir” and “yes ma’am” answers back home with her.
- Sparring and weapons material requirements are both added during color belt ranks.
- Management has been flexible and thoughtful about billing.
- Paying annually gets you a pretty substantial discount on your membership.
- Overall, the instruction, management, and leadership is terrific at this location. I find that the instructors are great at working with the kids, breaking down difficult moves for them, and making every class fun.

Cons:

- I think Ripple Effect could have a better story for older students who didn’t just sign up to do it with their child. One or two more classes geared towards teens and adults during the week, perhaps with material geared towards them, would go a long way toward this goal. Student have very different needs at different ages, and I think it might be beneficial for the schedule to reflect that.
- Some mat talks feel unprepared
- Some belt ranks have an uneven -amount- of material to learn, rather than there always being more material than the previous belt

We have been attending for approximately 6 months and couldn’t be happier. The classes are amazing. However, the staff add another layer of support that is unmatched. The kiddos have all the support they need and the staff care us, the families, as well.

The instructors are very good with children in the way they speak to them with positivity at all times. The curriculum is amazing and can be learned by young Children as well as Adults. The community is family and always welcoming!

My son has been doing martial arts here for almost a year, we absolutely love the program and the staff. My son struggled with behavioral issues at school and at home and since starting the program, we've seen significant improvements across the board. The staff really takes the time with each student to ensure that they have the skills necessary to be successful. I would highly recommend the Ripple Effect!
