Nevada county building department. Trying to get off grid ground solar permit approved and the county keeps changing what you need to get it approved. The last 3 times there going over the plans everything looks good and will be approved. Not they come up with more corrections and always say sorry you had to come in again. Nicholas McBurney have know idea what he is doing as should not be lied to over and over again.

Worst county in surrounding area to work with. Permit fees are astronomical compared to 4 other counties. Inspection process is a joke. 1st and last time doing work in Nevada County. Could have pulled 3 permits and done 3 jobs in other cities and counties for the same price charged for 1 permit here.

Great service! Very professional, knowledgeable and still provided a personal touch, going above and beyond their regular duties. They showed compassion for my sister and I during a very difficult time. Convenient location, with plenty of parking; shaded parking provided by solar panels 🙂 Building is clean if not a bit utilitarian as one would expect at a government facility. Well done Nevada County!

I wish I could say something positive about the Nevada County Building Department but first they would have to pick up the phone. Usually I can get the help I need, but I find that often no one picks up and the phone just rings forever - never going to voicemail either. I have no idea if they even HAVE any voicemail... but since they don't have anyone there who knows how to answer a ringing telephone, they probably should get one.
**Edit, discovered 8 months after this review that they recommend contacting them online. This would be good to know beforehand.**

Unfortunately, the last police officer I spoke to on jan 23rd told me he was out here and did not find evidence of exhaust being pulled in. That is because it varies throughout the day, fire dept and or police or other inspectors and "officials" that I and others have called to verify the toxic fumes arrive 30 minutes or more later and as I said the fumes are off and on throughout the day.

One would have to sit here every day, the whole day, for days on end and live in this or other units to be affected like several residents are so their reports are meaningless to the health of some here. Your health and environmental dept are equally meaningless and not helpful.

Likely applies to your Board of "supervisors" , and your inept Environmental dept who conveniently do not allow for reviews and are useless by and large. I will make sure to post pics of your "works" too perhaps.

As a home owner with a recent building project. I am writing this letter for contractors who for obvious reasons do not want to deal with possible repercussions. Most building inspectors were very easy to deal with, but there is one inspector who looks at his job instead of an instructor to help inform well established contractors comply with constantly changing building codes. He tries to catch any violation and make the contractor look bad in front of the building owner. Even going so far as to criticize his fellow inspectors in front of not only the contractor but also me. Since I am in a position that will probably never have to deal with this inspector again I am also speaking for several, more than 10 other contractors who have had similar experiences with this inspector. I am not mentioning names but the director can't help but know who I am talking about. The fact that you went to school to read the code book doesn't make you an inspector. Just like going to Med school doesn't make you a good doctor. I would like to also say that the office staff that I have dealt with were both knowledgable and courteous. If the Building department is to gain the respect of local contractors I feel that this inspector could use some additional training.
