I use a wheelchair and have been taking French lessons off and on for many years but it is always difficult to be consistent due to class scheduling, transportation etc. I am so glad that I found Jean-Luc! He is an excellent teacher - patient, informative and organized. I love the convenience of taking the classes in my own home which has enabled me to study with him for a few years now (and the fact, the classes are affordable helps too!) Also, studying one on one is much more productive than in a large class.
He is also a very kind, honest, genuine person and I always look forward to talking with him. I would highly recommend him!

If you want to begin learning French or to continue improving the French you already know, I can think of no one better to help you than Jean-Luc. A veteran of university classes and an immersion program in France, lack of use of the language seriously eroded my abilities. My weekly sessions with Jean-Luc keep me motivated to regain what I lost. He is extremely easy to talk with and knows how to put the student at ease. I felt totally comfortable chatting with him from the first lesson. He tailors the sessions by the needs and interests of the student, always finding interesting topics and resources. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

I am thoroughly enjoying my French tuition with Jean-Luc Balland. I asked him to have conversation for half the time and grammar/vocab exercises to increase my range. I can read quite well, but listening and speaking require concentration, and being one-on-one I find most useful. This way I cannot hide behind more confident speakers, and especially via Zoom I can ask for clarification or repetition. Jean-Luc's patience seems to be inexhaustible; he's very encouraging and gives corrections kindly. I recommend him highly and feel I am making improvement. $30./an hour is very reasonable, and when I missed a class by being delayed at a doctor's appointment, I expected to pay anyway, but he forgave me (an added bonus!)
