My daughter has taken both an art and photography class in her high school homeschool career here and she loved them both. She is actually going to be taking a second photography class before she graduates from them. I like that an expert is guiding my child (I’m not an expert in this) and my child really enjoys the Zoom portion as well. From the minute you sign up the communication is amazing and they do follow up several times to see if you need anything or have questions. Definitely would recommend these classes!

Through Megapixels School of the Arts, I took the online Creative Writing 1 class for teens. I thought it was a great class, and I really enjoyed learning about all of the prewriting/writing techniques and they helped a lot when I actually started writing my novel, and nearly all of the assignments were fun. Even if a student has no clue as to what they are going to write for a novel, this class does an excellent job of making sure that you have it all figured out by the end of the first few weeks. A nice feature is that students turn in their assignments on an online chat program called Voxer, where they get detailed voice recorded feedback and a letter grade from instructors every week based on the work they send. Students can also ask their instructors questions or for help if needed. Students, however, only have 3 weeks (five at the most if you need more time to catch up) to write the novel after 8 weeks of prep work, which can be challenging for those who are aiming for a three-hundred page book with a long and complex plot, as in my case. Due to time constraints, I had to eventually skip over some details and subplots that I wanted to have in my novel and just rush through to get it done, somewhat reducing my satisfaction at the end of the course.

Another thing I would like to note, and the reason my review is a 4 star - I thought the directions as to what platforms I was supposed to use to turn in assignments and how could have been clearer. I do feel that Megapixels should be using ONE well structured and higher quality paid service instead of parts of several free ones to make communication and turning in assignments more efficient and less time spent modifying for technical reasons. I would also like to note that the instructional videos (very enjoyable and informative) had used Microsoft Word in their examples, and so I had started using Microsoft Word to write my novel and then a week later I found out that I needed to paste everything over to a Google Doc so that it could be submitted, and in turn it consumed a lot of time with formatting switches, etc.
Overall, though, this was an enjoyable, well-planned out class, and I would recommend it to other students that are interested in learning about writing a novel.

Her videos and demonstrations were helpful, and her feedback on my son's photos were inspiring. Her class makes me want to learn more about photography. I definitely recommend Megapixels!

Meg Navarro thanks so much so sharing your art and teaching talents!!! My daughter (age 13) hit the jack pot with your classes. She has been enjoying it so much, and we started with just the free dolphin, then signed up for under sea camp (she’s especially proud of her crab!!) and now looking forward to the 14 week semester watercolor class in the fall (I can’t tell you how relieved I was when i looked and saw you have more classes she can sign up for)!!! She’s really grown into your program!! You have such a palatable way of teaching them online- she really grasps it and feels success!!!
