This school far exceeds all of my expectations!
The staff and administration truly care about the scholars and work together as a family.
They push the kids to be better, to be excellent, and to be prepared for life outside of the school. They place a high value on virtues and respect. I love that they do not shy away from American history, including 9/11, but recognize that we can (and should) learn from our historical past.
There are plenty of volunteer opportunities for parents and they encourage it! I love being able to meet my kids' teachers and really see how a day goes there first-hand. Dr. Edwards, the principal, and Mrs. D'Arcy, the assistant principal are wonderful and work at building relationships with all of the scholars. Mr. Philips, the Team Lead for middle school, goes out of his way to build their character, LISTEN to them as people, and get them to start thinking critically and logically.
I have 4 scholars there from Kindergarten through 8th grade, so I personally know much of the staff! I couldn't find one negative thing to say if I tried.
If you are looking for a school that has a close-knit feel, will teach your child respect in a firm and loving way, and will guide your child in academic excellence - absolutely check out Leman!

I have a hard time understanding any of these negative reviews about Leman. We transferred from Cherry Creek SD this year and it has been a game changer. My son said, “The school is so much better mom! The teachers are nice, even the kids are better!” I asked how the kids could be better and he said, “They actually listen when the teacher talks!” These may seem like small things but they are a big deal to us. My son was scoring as a B/C student before but tested pretty far behind Leman’s standard. I was shocked for the supposed number one district. Well now we’ve got a great plan to get him caught up and the communication with the staff has been incredible. My son feels very cared for and has shown new passion for learning. Thank you!

Leman has a great curriculum and seemed to be a great program with the best intentions. The issue for my scholar was that he has several learning disabilities which were diagnosed after we left the school. We were waiting for an evaluation while at Leman but we felt almost discouraged to get an evaluation to begin with. The Special Ed department seemed very primitive in their approach not to mention my child didn’t act like he was treated very well as this teacher that worked with him was the only teacher he has ever not cared for. When we went to remote learning it was clear by how she interacted with him it was obviously not a good fit.

It’s sad because we are learning that children with learning disabilities really need the more classical curriculum approach however Leman only seems to care for their high achievers therefore there really isn’t an opportunity for children in Douglas County to receive this curriculum unless you are alright with your child being constantly reminded they are inadequate. How hard would it be to have different levels of learning provided?

Our son is also gender nonconforming, and has been since he was three years old. While we are not pushing him in one direction we are letting him be who he is. He was very bullied and there didn’t seem to be much experience or concern with the issue.

I think my other three children would have been fine maybe even exceeded at Leman but if your child has special needs or is even just average until these issues improve you may want to do a bit more research.

This place is amazing. We came from Cherry Creek schools which, despite their reputation, are pretty terrible (i.e. they don't formally teach SPELLING). We weren't happy, but I had no idea what we were actually missing out on until we came here. From the Spanish/Latin classes, to the monthly recitations (memorizing a classic piece of literature), to the focus on history and the arts, the classical education model offers so many different avenues to excellence that just aren't available in a traditional public school. They really focus on developing the kids as both scholars and citizens, not just getting them to pass a standardized test. The administration is extremely caring and committed, and the few concerns I've had were dealt with promptly and with compassion. I really can't say enough about how much we love this school. I have 2 kids here, and they are both thriving. Take the tour, you won't regret it.

I drive over 20 miles one way to take my kids to this school and I could not be happier. Dr. Edwards and hos staff are amazing, there is so much love and genuine caring in this building. The curriculum is fast paced and challenging, Latin and Spanish are part of the core teaching as well as art an music.

We can say enough good things about this school. We have 2 middle schoolers, in two different charter schools, and both came from private schools. Our kids each prefer their charter schools over the private school environment. Between the two charter schools, I find Leman Academy to be head and shoulders above the other. And, let's just be clear for those reading, neither place is perfect...perfect schools don't exist. The middle school teachers are engaged and care about their craft. They know the scholars and create an environment that is safe for relationships and learning. The learning is rigorous and is preparing the scholars for the workload of high school while allowing room to balance life as pre-teens and early teens.

This school is starting strong! Focus on excellence not perfection. Addresses all the things we didn’t like about other charter schools in the area. I’m glad to report amazing teachers and wonderful administrators. The carpool system is extra amazing. It took only 5 min for us to pickup our kids in the second day of school!!
