I worked with Lakeshore for both standard test prep and personal statement, and it was an outstanding experience. Mr. Michael was both professional and personable in helping me improve my ACT/SAT performance. His explanations were clear and comprehensive, and he welcomed all questions until I fully understood each concept, even in group classes. He also provided guidance on whether to take the ACT or SAT, and is also equally great at explaining both. Additionally, Mr. Michael is genuinely invested in helping students succeed the college application process. I frequently requested extra practice sets, which he always supplied with answer keys, and reviewed them when he had time outside of class.

For my personal statement, Lakeshore helped me with both the creative and technical aspects of writing a compelling college application essay. They helped me brainstorm and develop concrete ideas to showcase my strengths as a person and a student. Writing it was definitely more stressful, but they helped me with everything from basic grammar corrections to selecting the right, impactful figure of speech for my statement. Also, Mr. Michael and his team were great at cutting down word counts efficiently – we reduced my 1,000-word Common App essay in just a day or two. This was crucial for me, as my GPA, extracurricular activities, and ACT score were below the average for the universities I was accepted into, like Kenyon, Grinnell, UCLA, and Colgate.

I personally highly recommend this tutoring service. I worked with Micheal and his coaching skills and the ability to pinpoint what may be going wrong is phenomenal. I started working with him end of my junior year and entering into senior year for the ACT. I was stressed with the time left I had to complete these tests for college, but at the end Micheal helped me so much I ended with a 35 super score, one more question to get a 36. He was able to see that my previously held test strategies were making me worse, and within a matter of 3-4 sessions he was able to refine my skills. For the math section specifically, he gave immense exposure to all types of math questions that I should expect on the test. He made me write up a one page study guide for the math section, which I was able to quickly look at before I began the test. Micheal is amazing at pinpointing what exactly each person is struggling with and tailor tutoring to that, which you don't really get in other tutoring services I've been to. Whether its timing, content, time of the day you practice, that is hindering your performance, Micheal is able to pinpoint that. I also went in for college interview prep and I felt very very prepared going into the interview and even after it. Overall, Lakeshore Academy is great place and totally worth it!

My best SAT tutoring experienced happened at Lakeshore Academy. I had personalized tutoring with expert guidance on how the SAT works, how to think like the test maker, how to analyze the types of questions, and how to analyze my mistakes and errors in my thinking processes. This is the test center for students who want to do exceptional on the SAT and/or ACT. My experience came from tutors who helped me with the SAT Verbal section.

For those struggling on the SAT reading and W/L section, Michael can increase your score dramatically. Michael is a phenomenal tutor with a thorough understanding of the SAT and ACT Reading/Writing and Language sections. This breathe of knowledge encapsulates a complete understanding of the types of questions on the SAT/ACT reading sections, levels of analysis within a passage, methods of seeking answers within a passage, and identifying the simple ideas that are embedded within complex rhetoric on the SAT. Furthermore, Michael worked around his schedule to meet my needs: something I have rarely experienced with professional tutors. Working after hours, on weekends, and in the evenings, Michael was an excellent tutor to work with because of his amicable and intuitive approach to his students. With Michael, I reduced my errors on the reading section by over 2 fold.

For those wanting targeted guidance on the nuances in the SAT W/L sections, Dr. Eileen, a professor in English, is an excellent resource. With her assistance, I was able to polish my grammar rules and was able to identify all of the difficult interpretation techniques requires on the SAT W/L section for the questions that asked to look beyond the grammar mistakes. With just three sessions, I was able to obtain a perfect W/L score.

Within 4 months, I increased my SAT verbal score from 700 to 750 (-6 on Reading, -0 on W/L). My score improved from 1480 to 1520 (1550 if it weren't for the ridiculous Math section curve on the August 2019 test: I had -1 on Math). Lakeshore, above all, has structure and is a professional service that caters to students who really want to obtain a competitive SAT/ACT score. I had access to endless practice tests, and I was able to obtain stellar results.I cannot be more thankful of my experience at Lakeshore Academy.
