Even though I had a terrible encounter with a library assistant who was attempting to treat me very unfairly, I won’t let that take away from how beautiful and inviting this library truly is. When I first arrived I was greeted by two kind employees at the counter who signed me into a study room and showed me the way. Some time went by when I heard a knock at the door and entered a woman who began by telling me that there should be a sign on the door that says 2 hour limit, she continued by saying that another patron needed the room and I would have to leave because I had been there for over two hours. I let her know that I wasn’t aware of the two hour rule and if she could show me where I could see the policy, she left without a word and came back with a form stating the two hour time limit with a clause that the time could be extended at the librarians discretion. I asked if she could allow me to stay because the people in the room next to me had been there before I had arrived. She said no and that they are working on Nclex, I let her know that this was my first time to the library and I had important work as well to which she said if I would have asked at the two hour mark like they did then she would have allowed it but now I would need to leave. The more that I thought about it I realized that I had been there much less than two hours so I asked her to please show me the sign in sheet with the time that I was signed in, she left again without a word but this time didn’t come back. I went back to the front counter to see if there was still an issue and when she saw me she vanished to the back office, I was helped again by the two kind librarians who assured me there was no issue and that I could stay until my time was up. I understand she was lacking information and made a mistake but professionally speaking she should have taken accountability and apologized for attempting to bully me out of a study room. Aside from that I was excited to see many kid friendly stations and reading areas. What appeals to me most is that although it’s a modern building, there’s a naturalistic theme that’s carried throughout the library making it blend so well with the natural environment found on kodiak. I look forward to bringing my kids here on my next visit.

This is the sweetest decorated library!
The art and the structure of the building with the wood beams make for a perfect place to explore. The children’s section is huge. Computer use is available surrounded by glossy photos of nature.
You will be greeted by enthusiastic staff members when inquiring about Artists work throughout the space. I have only explored libraries in Washington and Anchorage, Kodiak deserves more than five stars.

I spent lots of time at the library. There was a beekeeper from Australia or New Zealand? She was a nice lady. She was so kind to everyone it got me kind of emotional at the time. I was mainly learning/grinding about mycology in the region. It was my hangout from having awful sleep habits.

It was OK but they pick on strong quiet people for no reason sometimes and are quick to call the cops on people with mental illnesses and accuse them of alcoholism. They pick on cripples sometimes as well.

Beautiful building. Well organized and clean. Computers. Printers. Meeting rooms. The occasional rowdy teens and kids you would expect. Surprisingly extensive amount of books especially sections on local/Alaska history and native culture. The staff is especially kind and helpful.

It's a good library; the people who visit and the staff are respectful and very helpful in making sure that you find exactly what you're looking for. The volunteer program is good, the books are well stocked and taken care of, and the aesthetic is very good with a sunny day view out to the mountains and the bay. An excellent island library, definently one of the better I've seen.
