Jacksonville High School was located next to this site until after WWII. The bowl was built so the crowd enters at ground level and has large oval of sunken stadium seating surrounding a basketball court below ground. It remained in use for sports, public events like graduation, and community use even after the high school was moved to about a mile away. A moderate amount of parking is on site but ample additional parking is available in church, business, and public lots plus street parking.
