Ivan is a top notch guitarist and teacher! He was great about answering my questions before my son began lessons, and I felt really confident after speaking with him over the phone that he would be a great fit. I have a vocal jazz background and I knew that Ivan would be an excellent teacher with his jazz background...jazz is so great because of the emphasize on improv and playing with other musicians! My son always comes out of lessons happy with his time spent learning with Ivan, and he really enjoys the once a month guitar ensemble practice too. It is also a pleasure to listen to Ivan play his guitar 🙂

Ivan has been teaching my 6 year old son guitar for the past 6 months. He is fun, personable and a great teacher. My son has grown so much under Ivan’s personalized instruction. He can play many cords, and read notes 🎶! I highly recommend Ivan if you’re looking for a great guitar instructor.

I had a great time taking lessons from Ivan back when he was teaching at UNT. He's very welcoming, patient, and kind which are super important qualities to have as a teacher.
He helped me make sure my foundation on guitar was solid so that he could teach me more advanced concepts. He's a teacher that has the skill and knowledge to take you from being a beginner to advanced guitarist.
I even got help on sight reading which is usually a weak spot for guitarists. And the best part was I had FUN the whole time.
I highly recommend taking a lesson and seeing for yourself. Great teacher, great guitarist, and a great guy!

I've had Ivan give me music lessons and he is a really good teacher. He knows his stuff, and he knows how to explain it to someone who is just starting out. I learned a lot from Ivan. I would highly recommend his as your guitar teacher.

Ivan is so great, he meets his students where they're at and helps them set and achieve challenging goals. Students of Gygi music learn music theory, how to read music and improvise. They learn how to solo (melody) and how to support (rhythm). Most importantly, Ivan's students don't just learn guitar they learn how making music is a social pursuit and how it can become a transformational means of communication.

I had the pleasure of taking lessons with Ivan for a year and half. During this time we covered everything from foundational technique to complicated Bach etudes, to advanced theoretical concepts for guitar. Although the main focus of our lessons was Jazz, I truly believe Ivan can teach it all. Since my lessons with Ivan concluded, I have advanced significantly in the jazz program at the University of North Texas. The knowledge gained from this experience is beneficial to any beginning or advancing guitarist.
