My partner and I visited the Fox Valley Family YMCA for the first time today and it was an absolute standout when it comes to fitness, family, and community. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warmth and professionalism—especially from Michelle at the front desk, who was incredibly helpful and welcoming.

This YMCA facility offers something for everyone. The cycling studio is high-energy and motivating, the yoga studio is a peaceful retreat, and the music studio adds a unique creative touch you won’t find at most gyms. The large indoor courts provide endless opportunities for basketball, pickleball, and other activities, making it a perfect place for both casual games and superior athletes.

The exercise gym itself is one of our favorites, with state-of-the-art equipment that is well-maintained and suitable for all fitness levels, which was very important to my partner as he is a 600 lb squatter. Nevertheless, whether you're into strength training, cardio, or functional workouts, you'll find exactly what you need. But what truly sets this YMCA apart is the people—friendly, encouraging, and truly embodying the spirit of community.

For families, the Children’s Center and youth programs are nothing short of phenomenal. The staff here is exceptionally attentive and caring, making sure that kids are not only engaged but also in a safe and nurturing environment. It’s clear they put a lot of effort into making this a fantastic place for families.

Job well done, Fox Valley! We will be back!

Our family has been a part of the YMCA Plano Branch community since August/September 2024, and it's been a wonderful experience. We initially enrolled our children in the swim lessons, and it was incredible to watch their confidence and swimming skills improve week after week. The instructors are patient and encouraging, creating a positive learning environment. My husband and I were so impressed that we decided to try the group fitness classes, and we've been hooked ever since! The variety of classes and the supportive atmosphere have made it easy to make fitness a regular part of our routine. The YMCA Plano Branch truly feels like a place where the whole family can thrive. What sets this Y apart is the amazing community. Everyone is so supportive and encouraging, regardless of fitness level. Instructors like Michelle, Jess, Erin, Dodie and Melissa are fantastic at motivating you, offering modifications and personalized encouragements. The workouts are always challenging but enjoyable. I've made some great friends and feel so much stronger and healthier. If you're looking for a workout group that feels like family, this is it!

I would recommend going to another YMCA. This location has terrible time management and it’s a big inconvenience. I will never ever go back to this location. I’ll help you and save your time, money, and sanity; by telling you to do the same. Any other Y has been more convenient, safe, and reliable than this location. Here to save your time at the end of the day!

My rating would be much higher but I'm a swimmer and unless you are on the swim team, a lifeguard in training, or there with a group outing, your pool time is pretty limited to getting up at 4:30am. I seriously hope this changes when the new branch is completed.

Serious Concerns Regarding the Safe Before and After School and Summer Programs

This review expresses my serious concerns regarding the SAFE before and after school program, as well as their summer program. My intention is to bring to your attention specific issues that I believe need immediate addressing for the safety and well-being of all children enrolled.

Before and After School Program:
There is a significant lack of documentation regarding occurrences and incidents involving children in your program. This absence of proper record-keeping raises serious concerns about the program's ability to ensure the safety and well-being of the children in its care.

Furthermore, I have observed that some senior staff members, while seasoned, do not appear to possess the necessary qualifications or training to effectively monitor children or to diffuse potentially volatile situations, if anything they have added in gaslighting situations with picking their favorites. This lack of appropriate supervision could lead to unsafe environments for the children, and it is imperative that staff members be adequately trained to handle such responsibilities. While parents talk about their frustrations and the lack of accountability, failing to act or speak on what we see and have experience is a disservice to all children entering this program.

Summer Program:
My concerns extend to the summer program as well. It was disheartening to witness the inadequacy of activities provided for the children. Many were left outside in extreme heat, which poses significant health risks. Additionally, it seemed that the facility prioritized the installation of a new gym floor over the well-being and engagement of the children.

Moreover, the lack of qualified staff for monitoring and guiding the children was apparent. There were instances where children engaged in adult-like conversations that are inappropriate for their age, snd often engaged with the children instead of providing instruction to not speak inappropriately. How do instructors participate in an all out gossip fest with children. Are they friends or instructors and mentors? There’s an disturbing absence of accountability when concerns are made. Effective communication and conflict resolution strategies appear to be sorely lacking, from the TOP DOWN which can lead to misunderstandings and a breakdown of trust between the staff and the families.

In light of these issues, I strongly urge you to reevaluate the staffing, training, and programming in both the before and after school program and the summer program. It is vital that all staff members are not only qualified but also equipped with the necessary skills to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for the children.

Unfortunately for us, this SAFE program has left us in a state of constant repair with the damage it has done. I urge anyone looking into entering their child into this program to ask questions about staff qualifications and training. Ask what age groups are grouped together for activities, ask about the student to staff ratio and if you’re entering the summer program ask for a weekly curriculum/schedule of activities and don’t hesitate to drive by to see if you’re child has been sitting in a parking lot for 80% of the day pretty much entertaining themselves, under a makeshift tent.

This is specifically for their SAFE program-
Our experience was, unfortunately, not at all what we were expecting for a program with such title and powerful mission statement. To keep this brief and to the point, the program was understaffed, the staff needed ongoing training opportunities to adequately engage a large number of children, the program lacked meaningful procedures for conflict resolution between children and restorative justice practices. The way our issues were handled by the director is in no way a reflection of their "3 key areas" listed on their website.

Great place to get a good workout and build lifelong friendships. Something for everyone; all levels welcome. Started coming with my daughter when she was 13 and it has become a part of my life 20 years later.

The Plano Y is exceptional. The group workout classes are perfect. The instructors are all really nice and you can tell they enjoy what they do. And the kid zone is on it. I always feel confident leaving my girls, knowing they are going to have fun while I work out
