We had a wonderful time visiting the DuSable Museum. The kids area was amazing and way exceed what we imagined. The kids section had a baby area, little jungle gym, great book selection, SALON!, fun stationary bikes, and a restaurant/ grocery area. Our kids (7, 6, &1) enjoyed playing and then enjoyed walking through the exhibit areas. A great mix of pictures, videos, artifacts, and can’t forget the Harold Washington robotic. Staff and security were very kind and welcoming. We spent about an hour here. Would definitely come back.

Truly enjoyed visiting this museum and connecting with the folks inside. There was so much to see, watch, read, and feel as we perused the exhibits. I was super inspired downstairs by Ida B. Wells’ desk, the shackles, and slave tags. The Mayor Washington exhibit was also truly motivating and such an experience. I felt he was talking directly to me as he explained his vision and time in office. I would love for him to get some work done on his neck. Can’t wait to come back and to support this museum. Black Excellence!

Enjoyed my visit here. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and helpful. I learned a lot in the exhibits, but recommend starting downstairs and then moving upstairs. The lower level has most of the enslavement and Civil Rights history, so it can bring up a lot of emotions. The upper level is different in that it displays art, photography, and prominent figures that tell stories of progress and hope. I went with another adult, but there was a small section for young children on the upper level as well. The museum is not large, it took us about 1.5 hours to go all the way through. I would be interested in going back as exhibits change. There was enough free parking in the lot, but spaces would likely be limited on a busy day.

My sorority sisters and I spent MLK Day at DuSable honoring Dr. King. It was great to see so many families of all races coming together, braving the brutally cold weather to pay respect to Dr. King at the DuSable Museum. I was honored with a quick after-hours tour of the children's area. It is a must-see! Go, join, and celebrate Black history, American history.

Sometimes I can't take visualizing the horrible, painful, deadly path of my ancestors so this was a breath of fresh air. They did not focus on slavery, the focus was more on accomplishments. They showed African tribal things and tried to portray life in Africa from the eyes of a child. Well worth the visit.

Was visiting Chicago from Tennessee over the weekend. Wasn’t even aware of the museum until my tour guide on the Architecture River tour mentioned it. Only had about an hour, so had to move quickly through part of the museum. But enjoyed my visit overall! Learned a lot of about the Black history of Chicago that I didn’t know about before, being from out of town. Will definitely allow for more time on my next visit to Chicago!

An absolute must for Chitown residents (if you haven’t been yet, Is. It. Not. About. Time? 😊) and visitors. It’s certainly worth the $12-$14ish fee. Yet if on a tight budget Wednesdays are free.

There are so many rich exhibits in a relatively small space. The are short movie experiences, exhibits for kids, and when available they have a virtual reality March on Washington which was BREATHTAKING truly.

Here are some PRO TIPS:

1. Make a day out of this is experience and area. It’s a unique historic experience with a lot to see. Details in the tips below.

2. 🅿️ behind the museum shouldn’t be too difficult.

3. Get tickets on line and look for exhibits times. Especially if the virtual reality experience returns.

4. 7mins away you can visit Emmett Tills home. Viewing from the outside only. Google map image provided.

5. 5mins away you can visit the Mammie & Emmett Tills Garden. Google map image provided.

6. 6 mins away you can visit Lorraine Hansberry’s home. Viewing from the outside only. Google map image provided.

7. You can take a sneak peak mini tour of the University of Chicago (Harry Pottery feels in my opinion) by visiting the coffee shop called Hallowed Grounds. Yet, SKIP THE COFFEE. Mine come out burnt.

Having not been to the DuSable Black History Museum & Education Center in over 3 decades I decided to visit. I was greeted by Keisha and Tiara who we had the brightest smiles and encouraged me to visit again. This is a 💎 of gems 💎 a must visit for locals and those near and far.
