Amazing tour. Besides the obvious, our guide pointed out so many little things, such as the German Silver Sink in the butler pantries in the Deere/Wiman and Buttetworth homes, the uniquely carved spindles in the grand staircase, the accurate antique thermometers in each room. The “spa” shower for Charles Deere’s bathroom was amazing. It was a wonderful, fascinating glimpse into the Deere/Wiman lives. Best if all - the tour is free as per family wishes, but make reservations.

the attention to detail is in every room but in some you have to look for them. Many appear within the woodwork but others can be found around door handles and other such areas. I wonder what it would have been like growing up in a house like that. For the time that it was built, it was equipped with amenities that most had no idea of what was coming.

The ladies who give the tours were very passionate about the subject matter. It's honestly one of the few places left that do not charge for tours, although I wonder how long they'll be able to keep doing that (considering how much upkeep must be).

Can't go wrong for a little local history!
