A Lifetime of Good Advice. That's what I've gotten from the CSU Extension Offices from Chaffee County to Boulder County to Montrose County.
During my 4-H years the Extension Service was of key importance for me for learning to cook in high altitudes, though I didn't understand that we lived anywhere odd. Booklets on how to hand sew and how to handle cloth on the bias were part of my sewing stock. My 4-H peers were beholden to the Service for help with their livestock, as were the ranchers.
Then came the lifetime of answers for questions about whether I should worry about my dog eating local mushrooms (I was told that the worse that would happen from yard mushrooms would be that my dog might hallucinate. I just wonder what a Basset looks like when hallucinating.) to how to rid my chimney of a baby raccoon nest (ammonia sacks hung down the chimney).
Now at 66 I am again planting trees -- expensive trees. I'm relying on the Extension Service Master Gardeners to help me make sure these lovely trees survive and thrive. New county with new soil challenges, but I am confident in the gardeners. I may need help with wasps and morning doves. I know there will be good ideas coming from the experts and volunteers, as there always have been.
