Crabtree Nature Center is close by for us, and we like the peaceful walking trails around the lake and out into the open prairie land. It's not a long walk (there are two 1.4 mile loops which can be combined into a ~3 mile walk), but it's pleasant and refreshing to see the tall grasses waving in the wind or feel the cool shade of the trees. It gets muddy, so consider that after a rainy period. The path around the lake is the shadier of the two on a hot day; the Phantom Prairie trail is less crowded and takes you out into more open space than you'd expect to see in the suburbs. Neither trail is often crowded, though, and no one's biking or walking dogs here. The nature center is simple but nice.

My daughter loved the nature center! It had a small owl which was really cool to see up close. They also have injured owls in a cage outside of the nature center that you could see. They also have binoculars for rent that you could use for bird watching! The walk around the trails was beautiful. Definitely coming back

This is a 'nature center' focusing to bring you closer to wild life. Theyfore there are no pavements and dogs not allowed. Some part of trails are muddy after rains. Very quiet place.
Beware of mosquitoes as they can ruin your visit.

Went to the Explore nature event. Amazing stands with different unique demonstrations including bee keeping, yarn weaving, fishing anchoring, wood cookie painting, taxidermy specimens, pressing tokens, wellness stand and orienteering (best one). An hour drive but worth! Will go again to explore the trails!! Amazing volunteers and Staffs!! 4 yr old and I enjoyed Throughly!!

Good place to go on a nature hike. Trails are generally short and easy. Beautiful landscape and frogs in the small frog pond off the one trail. Also, some injured owls in cages.

Great park, around 2.5 miles in size with about 70% covered in forest. Beautiful trees, excellent trails for walking, though not paved. Lakes add to the charm. A pleasant spot! No dogs only hiking.
