Sam at The British Swim School is a gem! Our 3-year-old had his first swim lesson with her, and it was beyond fantastic. Sam's engagement and fun approach made our son feel incredibly comfortable and confident in the water. She sang to him and asked questions to ease any nerves, resulting in a wonderfully relaxed and successful class. We couldn't be happier with Sam's dedication and skill in teaching. Highly recommend!

My son has blossomed at British Swim School these last couple of weeks. He has learned so much about pool safety and I feel comfortable watching him swim alone and enjoy himself in the water. He used to only go in water that was ankle deep; now he's swimming and floating in the deep end. I am so happy I found this program when I did. It has been life changing.

British Swim School is the best swimming school in Colorado Springs. It is worth of every penny. It taught my daughter how to swim. The teachers are very nice very knowledgeable, and are well experienced. My daughter just started how to swim last summer and now, only after 5 months, she's already a pro. I highly recommend British Swim School to any one who is looking for a swimming class for their kids or even for themselves.

I found it difficult to find adult sin lessons in Colorado Springs until I found the British Swim School. Honestly, I felt a little silly being a 50+ year old woman taking swimming lessons next to groups of 5-10 year olds, but every instructor I met was super encouraging and they all made me feel comfortable. I thought the lessons were really fun! They're 30 minutes long, but every week the time flew by I felt like I was only in the pool for 10 minutes! I whole heartedly recommend it!

We started at this location this summer with our 8yr old and 6yr old. Our kids had been to other schools in the past with not much improvement in their skills. Just a few months later, with once a week classes, both of our kids have made huge strides in their confidence and skills in the water. The owners are always present and helpful. The class trainers/teachers are patient and encouraging while promoting growth. I am so glad we found them! And best of all our kids look forward to lessons!

Positives: everyone is incredibly friendly, the instructors are knowledgeable and professional, they are accommodating of your time and schedule, and it’s a safe/potentially fun environment for your child to become accustomed to the water.

Negatives: it would appear their teaching philosophy is to continue the lesson no matter what. This works out great for children who are a bit more confident and just need that extra push. However, for shy, young children like my 9 month old this equates to letting the child ‘cry it out’ while the instructor submerges them.

During our last lesson, when the instructor held my son for the first time, he was screaming hysterically. I would have guessed, based on his reaction, that the instructor would have simply made the goal of the lesson to make my son okay with being held by a stranger in the water. We were alone in the class so she had the flexibility to do that. However, to my surprise, she yelled over his screaming to inform me that she was now going to submerge him. I had to say ‘no’ and physically take him back from her because, even though my arms were out, she was not handing him to me. Frankly that bothered me a bit, but I understand I may be a bit sensitive to that sort of thing.

Later in the lesson, after I had taken him back several times and he calmed down, she wanted to take him again and submerge him. When I told her he was not ready and we wouldn’t be doing that today she and the other instructor seemed a tad offended. Notably, after a bit of back and forth they did alter the lesson to accommodate my request which was appreciated. He is fine with me submerging him so we did a series of that.

I’m sure their teaching approach is very successful, but I’m too much of a softy for my baby crying to abide by it. No judgement to people who parent differently than me and I’m sure most kids handle this better than my son. I just wish I had better understood the teaching philosophy here before deciding to join.
