Update: After posting my review, the CEO, Jamie Serrano, retaliated against me and my family, by kicking my seven year old daughter out. If you are considering attending or donating to this organization, I suggest you do not. They take advantage of their families financially, and if you don't like something and speak out, they will retaliate.

My family and I have been using Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin for many years. It allows me to have a safe place for me to send my children and I appreciate the organization for that . HOWEVER. For several years now, the Tustin club has required members to pay for an entire month of bus transport even though school starts mid month. And this doesn't mean your child can attend all month that is another charge. Every year I am appalled that an organization that is meant to help the local families, many who are struggling, is taking advantage of the community like this. It seems to be a case of double dipping and not only seems it could be illegal but is ethically wrong. After years of just taking it and paying it, I'm on a mission to change this policy. The Teachers and staff are great, this is not personal, this is a problem with policy.

Boys & Girls Club of Tustin is a good place to be at and you can be with your friends. I personally enjoyed it here but there are some things I need to say, mostly involved with staff, rules, and bad decisions with this location. First, I would like to say what is it about the decision to replace the nature room with a pre-k room. As if this wasn't enough, the room was eventually abandoned after one school year and to this day, the room is still vacant. It was already bad enough for the room to be replaced with the pre-k room since there was already a little rascals and the nature room was loved by many people and one of my personal favs. Second, staff. The staff are good and have few negative things. The thing that I don't like is the fact that at a field trip to the waterpark, the staff told me I could not get on but all the other people can and they would not give me an explaination. This is actually mostly on the waterpark as the waterpark would not let me down the slide right away. The staff are good here and Mrs. Dawn does not deserve any of the hate she gets. Even though Mrs. Dawn is a little strict but honestly, the kids there would make an over-reaction on how strict she is. Ms. Tara is really nice and calm. Lastly, rules. The rules here don't have anything to do with the little kids but there are some rules with lunch & the teen room that I don't understand. First, sometimes, there is boy and girl time in the teen room and in my opinion, totally ruins the fact that the name of this facilty is boys (and) girls. Second, Lunch. On Friday, there is pizza for lunch. Boys & Girls Club decided to get lunch from a different facility to get the food and it caused the facility to not order enough food. Sometimes, I even saw people with 2 pieces of pizza while others did not have a slice of pizza and only got an uncrustable or a ham & cheese sandwich on a burger bun. Technically, the food was free but considering the prices to be at the facility as a whole was a little bit crazy. I want to talk about the good things though because there is a reason why this is 4 stars.
First off, the club provided glasses free of charge to people who needed them and even brought out a truck where real opticians check your lenses and best part, no painful eye lasers. There was also this mental health program for teens and tweens at the teen room where we got to learn about mental health, red flags and green flags, and important things that teens and tweens should know as they get older. The mental health club even had Little Ceaser's Pizza & when all the classes were complete, you got an award, a free coloring book about motivational quotes, and they held a little party in the teen room. Finally, there are many unique things that kids can do including games like air hockey, carpet ball, pool, and even foosball, the art room where you can learn how to crochet, make robots out of recycled material, and yes, the art teacher, Ms. G taught me how to spray paint the robot. The education center where you can watch movies, read books, and get more coloring pages, the tech center where you can play games on the computers, and let's not even get started on the gym.
The gym has lots of things including a rock wall all the way to the ceiling, fun games like pac-man, flag football, sharks and minnows, I even got a hip-hop dance class where the dance coaches taught us how to do basic steps, it was even featured in the news and we got to see a news reporter in real life. Boys & Girls Clubs of Tustin is a great place and while I may disagree in some of the rules, decisions, and other things that this location has, this location has more positive things than negative things.

Great place for your children to learn, be encouraged, and spend their time away from home. Mr Antonio and staff are top notch and do more than just their job...they truly care about the kids and I am blessed that my child is apart of the Boys and Girls Club.

As a club member, in the teen room, they have boy time and girl time which this is supposed to be boys AND girls, not boys then girls and vice versa which that is not treating members correctly by gender. But other then that, it's a fair place
