I worked as a RBT for four consecutive years and every year I had to renew my certification through the BACB. During my last renewal, I was asked if I had reached all of my supervision requirements for the year (which they always ask) and I answered honestly that I did not reach this requirement. Due to this, I was audited for the first time since becoming certified and a couple of weeks later I was notified that my certification was terminated for six months for being “Substantially non compliant”. In total, I missed three months of supervision out of the year (I received 45/48 months of supervision throughout my time as a RBT) and decided to file for an appeal. When completing the appeal, I was given a very limited amount of space to advocate for myself which made it even more disheartening. I did inform them that out of the three months that I had missed supervision, one month I was undergoing emergency surgery and the other two months were because my previous employer did not have enough staff to conduct supervision of which they confirmed to the BACB while also advocating for me on my behalf.
Two more weeks passed before I received confirmation from the BACB that they were going to uphold their initial decision and terminate my certification. The part that shocked me is that they never fixed an initial error that stated I missed 4/11 months of supervision when it was only three because I was on LOA during one month & on top of that they still counted the month I was hospitalized against me even with documentation proving I was in the hospital.
The BACB (the field of ABA in general) constantly preaches about the importance of utilizing positive reinforcement in order to promote positive behavior changes. Studies have shown that the use of negative reinforcement has proven to potentially lead to negative emotions and should only be utilized when other forms of positive reinforcement strategies have failed. Throughout my time as a RBT, I strove to follow every protocol laid out by the BACB and had zero corrective action ever taken against my behalf until this one incident yet in the end I was found to be substantially non compliant and my certification was revoked. As a result of everything stated above, it is fair to say that I will not be reapplying for a RBT certification in six months and will be permanently leaving the field of ABA.

I was surprised at the number of negative reviews. I am an RBT, since last year. I had no issues scheduling or taking my exam/getting certified. When I went to renew, there was an error on my form and it got rejected. I sent in the renewal about a week before it expired, they accepted and reinstated me within a week, faster than I expected because I had heard horror stories. I'm planning on becoming a BCBA so I'm praying they get better by the time I do. No phone number is pretty wild.

I’ve been trying to schedule my retake for almost 2 months. I’ve had over 14 emails sent with zero response from the company. If anybody needs oversight, it’s the BACB because you can’t get much worse at your job than they are. Maybe it’s time the government came in and had some oversight.

Terrible customer service. Their website is also almost always down. Whenever I try to enter a CEU, I always have to enter it at least 2 or 3 times because I always get the message that my account is currently unavailable and have to refresh the page. It is endlessly frustrating.

My daughter has worked so hard to obtain her certification and everything has been a positive experience until having to deal with this organization in order to finally take her test. You keep kicking her application back via emails with vague, ambiguous language. SHE IS NEW TO THIS WHOLE PROCESS!!!!!
Why don't you have people in place to assist applicants with the application process since you are making it so ridiculously, and uneccessarily, complicated. She was SO excited to finally satisfy you alls requirements - now you deliver another blow stating:
"The submitted attestation was completed more than 180 days before payment. The attestation form must be completed within 180 days from your payment date."

What does that even mean!!!!!
She paid WHEN she completed the application.....we have no idea what you are talking about or what you want. And THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOONE FOR HER TO SPEAK WITH. So I guess you all will continue to refuse to help until 90 days passes and she has to apply & PAY again. It's time to start writing letters and forming petitions bcz they obviously don't care about the people they are supposed to be helping.

I have been trying to get my RBT for two months. I submitted ALL of the things I needed to submit for my RBT such as diploma, 40 hour certificate, and assessment. I have been getting bot-like responses and no help. They sent an email saying that I needed to pay even though I showed them proof of payment for my application Terrible, and there is no phone number to resolve this quick fix. Now I have to wait two weeks for a response like I am writing to my long lost girlfriend writing letters. This whole service completely destroys the reputation of ABA.

This platform isn't for TRUE working individuals at all. I may have to find a different profession because the board won't fix their issues with renewals and have the worst communication when it comes to issues on their website! No phone (which is crazy), so I have been sending emails to no avail since august 21ST trying to rectify this situation, but they refuse to help. Today is Sept 16th and I have not been to work in nearly a month due to the board's incompetence.

I was planning to become a certified RBT....However, with all the bad reviews, unfair treatment and inefficiency, I changed my mind....From reading these reviews, it appears that those seeking to become an RBT, are emotionally and mentally abuse. Someone needs to investigate this company.....
