I'm very unhappy with my experience at GCU. I enrolled in their Master's in Reading program. I specifically asked about the field experience prior to signing up with a recruiter. It sounded like I was able to complete this required coursework in my current building (preschool and kindergarten school). The student services counselor also didn't mention the field requirements to me prior to starting classes. They have an intro class to the program that teaches you about the expectations of the program. I quickly realized it was not possible for me to complete the field experience requirements of this program and asked to withdraw from the course/program. I had only been in school 1-2 weeks. They are charging me thousands of dollars that I could have avoided had they been upfront about the field experiences. I’ve been disputing the charge with the college and continue to catch them in lies. I expected more from a Christian college. This college just wants your money and doesn't care about you at all. I strongly do NOT recommend this university.

I was invited to an orientation as a prospective PhD candidate. This was a pleasant trip and very informative. We had a full day of activities and they included breakfast, lunch and dinner. Excellent itinerary which was time conscious and included a campus tour. We had the opportunity to visit the campus bookstore which was a treat. I have applied for the upcoming semester and encourage all students seeking a BA, MA and especially PhD to seriously consider a Grand Canyon University. The admission counselors were very helpful and answered all my questions with no hesitation and basically the follow up that I have received since I left the campus is incredible. That type of support is really needed will you try to finish your PhD and I am excited to be called a member of the Grand Canyon University community. Go Lopes!

I absolutely would NOT ever recommend this college to anyone especially military members and their spouses. This so called “Christian” college does not care about their students, they do not listen and they are not there to help you. Their appeals department is a joke. They do not actually read the appeal, they assume and make their judgement based on whatever they feel like even if it’s not pertinent to your situation. Initially, I was going to refer my spouse and some friends as I had a great start, like everything it starts off good. Until I needed help, and got no where. Do your research and go for a much better school than this joke. After reading so many of these reviews now, I wish I had done this in the beginning. They are not at all committed to their students and could care less about them. What a waste.

I followed up as requested in their passive comment. I waited two months and got a response of “this is not my area and I will forward on”. I continued to wait and have yet to hear any type of response. Please do your research an do not pick this school. They’re only in it for the money and not the education. They do not help, especially military or their spouses. WGU or even university of Phoenix are much better options. Hope this helps save others a headache.

Was into de ABSN program. The professor for health assessment was not supportive at all. The videos provided as resources were very bad quality (mute while voice over, but not fix), that showed carelessness for the students. Contacted the professor for support as I was failing my course, she redirected me to tutoring classes instead. She didn’t provide any weekly reviews as other professors do, and was always too busy when I tried to schedule meetings. I ended up failing my course for very few points.

Their policy don’t make sense. They require minimum 76% on exams to pass the semester, however, make you work hard in other assignments that will require almost all your time; but at the end those points earn on other assignments don’t matter if you failed your exams. I don’t think that’s fair. If all what matters is the exams, they should let the students focus only on that and not overwhelming them with things that don’t make sense. I wish I had chosen a different school. I will not recommend this school. Look somewhere else and reduce all the anxiety and fear of failure and having a big deb and not degree.

Not sure what has taken me so long to leave this review. I love this school! I can here as a transfer student in 2017, and since then have completed my bachelors degree while meeting some of my favorite people on Earth, including my wife! Since graduating in 2019, I started working for the university, and am pursuing my Master of Divinity. I love this school! Love their heart for the Valley, and the Kingdom!

I wish I had done more research before wasting 1.5 years on my doctoral degree with this program. The professors are all over the place. Some rave and praise your work, while others take the exact same work and demolish it. We are all professionals, and it just felt like things weren’t honest from the beginning. About 1 year in I was told by my advisor that most people finish their degrees in 5-7 years, not 3 as advertised! I would not have registered. The college is driven by making money. Needless to say, I have withdrawn and will take my talents elsewhere.

I was not going to do this but after seeing other experience the same I have too. I was excelling at GCU almost done college. I would have been the first in my family to ever do that. Then my grandmother (my everything) passed away. I tried to hang in there but eventually I lost myself. Meanwhile no compassion at all from my school.. ended up failing a course and it was very much sooo pay or don’t return. Tried to go to another school and of course I can’t get my transcripts. Went to school to try to better my life. I’m still struggling and could be a college grad by now doing big things. I’m so sorry I chose to go here.
