Great place to learn! The staff was excellent for having to deal with a ton of 4th graders! They were patient with all of them and made the experience perfect! Especially in the 90° weather!!! Thanks again for the memories!

I had read previous parent reviews before my daughters' school's 4th graders visited a few months ago, which helped us prepare for desert nature camping.

The public toilet cleaning that someone previously detailed in their review shocked me, so I discussed this with my daughter ahead of time. We do have our children participate in toilet cleaning chores at our own home, but public toilet cleaning, especially at her age without knowledge of potential health issues to protect oneself from, was not a chore we approved her to perform.

I had a bad feeling...but off she went, excited about the field trip.

After she returned, my 10 year old said bees attacked some kids (4-6 kids were stung) at their outside "Welcome" lunch. Some thought one type of bug spray, or sunscreen, had been the trigger, but the bees also liked the juices & Gatoraids (I luckily sent water). A few kids were pricked by cacti on nature walks. My daughter's cabin had a snake and wasp and a different cabin had 2 scorpions (all were released outside the doors).

A fire alarm somehow was triggered in her cabin at 3am, so little sleep was had by most in the entire camp.

Her cabin (Nopal) was assigned with bathroom duty for clean-up - and yes, you guessed it, she was asked to clean toilets. Thanks to my having read previous reviews about this possibility, I explain to her to say she was not allowed to clean public toilets, but would happily take on another chore. The chaperone performed her toilet chore & reassigned my daughter to a more appropriate chore of sweeping.

After all of this....she says she would go again!! 🙂

I've had two daughters attend Camp Cooper on 3 different trips and I have chaperoned on one of these trips. The staff is wonderful and do a great job of engaging the kids interest and keeping them enjoying every minute of learning. One of my daughters was also on the 'bathroom' clean up crew. No, this does not involve toilet brushes or scrubbing. What it does involve is asking our children to learn to clean up after themselves. The children and adults that attend the function are asked to tidy up all the spaces that they used. If you are on the trail and you drop a gum wrapper...please pick it up. If you ate at the ramada and dropped food...please clean it up. If you used the bathroom and left toilet paper on the floor...please sweep it up. They divide everyone into clean up crews for this purpose. Kudos to Camp Cooper for good lessons well taught. I hope Camp Cooper stays around for many years to come.
