This is one of the most researched forests in California. Managed by UC Berkeley Forest research department. One of the most notable experiments is the Nelder Plot. Trees were planted in a wagon wheel shape formation to test proper tree planting distances. From the sky it looks like crop circles.

World class forestry research in an idyllic setting. It is open to public visitors and has trails with signs describing the ongoing research. A significant part burned in the mosquito fire in 2022, but most of the property is intact.
