My mom is dying from Glioblastoma brain cancer-doctors dont know when she will go, but she wanted to do radiation and chemo. With her decline in physical and mental capabilities and being on Medicare, we admitted her to The Pines in Placerville. Overall, our experience with them has no complaints. Initially, she wasn't very happy to be there because of the differences compared to her private room at the hospital. However, I cannot fault The Pines for that, especially with how the staff treated her and our family.

I have worked in a couple dozen nursing homes of various skill and funding levels; all over California and a few in Nevada. I knew what to expect from a place that we weren't paying thousands of dollars a month out of pocket for. I too, was nervous the first night she was transferred there. It can be loud; and there's alot of activity and my mom felt at times she wasn't receiving "service" as promptly as she would've liked. With that said, I very quickly began to know the staff personally and they were all friendly, professional and accommodating. It's very busy there-there is alot of residents and patients who were more worse off in ways than my mother and were far more demanding and not nice about it. The stress on the staff is alot. Yet, overall they handle it like pros.

My mother was there just under two weeks before she unfortunately had to go back to the hospital and will probably not leave it alive. While she cannot personally express her feelings about The Pines, I spent everyday there, many times for most of the day and at all different times so I can speak from first hand experience: I know the reviews from others and the reputation this place has. The Director, Colby, you can tell is working very hard to turn that reputation around. The staff works very hard and I pray for their continued strength and determination in what they are doing because it is not an easy job and at times-maybe many times-seems thankless and unrewarding. Just know that for this family, you took an already difficult and emotional period of our lives and were able to ease this portion and truly give help when it was desperately needed.

Special shout outs to Amy, Mikala, Colleen, Mai, Abraham, Maura, Michelle, Kelsey, Britni, Bill, Christina, Stephen, Samantha and so many more there that I can't remember your name or didn't catch it when we met: I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you did for my mother. If she was capable of it, I know she would personally express how thankful and appreciative she was for your care, concern and dignity during this very difficult time of her life.

I only have good things to say about this skilled nursing facility. This has become the premier teaching institution of the region and has contributed greatly to my education. All of the staff here made me feel welcome as a student physical therapist for my clinical rotation. Dr. Abraham was my APTA credentialed clinical instructor and has implemented a teaching program here for other doctoral students. I learned more at this rotation than had at my previous two and I feel well prepared to graduate and start treating patients as a Clinician. Dr. Abraham not only challenged me each day to learn as much as I can but also increased my confidence with in my self. Any student is lucky to have him as a clinical instructor.

It was clean. Jen and Jessika at the front desk were very nice and helpful.
The residents seemed cared for. The smell of urine didn't hit us in the face when we walked in. Plenty of staff taking the residents to activities or on a walk. The atmosphere seemed warm and happy.

These nurses here have no compassion or morals. They treat their patients with no respect and neglect them. Someone needs to come into this facility and make a complete investigation on the staff and how they treat the elderly and all the other patients. This is outrageous and sad! No one should ever be treated this way. And no one should take their families here.

The Pines has been truly a miracle place for my mother. They have treated her with utmost respect and care. She has slowly regained her health, strength, confidence.

She said she always had a voice and felt she had a place that she felt safe and cared for. That feeling that my mother experienced gave us as a family a piece of relief.

To know that she had a MD that checked in with her, nurses as well as staff who all played a significant role in her care.

My family would like to extend a special thank you to Jennifer Pozas for making sure any special accommodations or medical needs were coordinated accordingly, Tierra Camara for her leadership and overseeing the entire experience. The wonderful call from Christina with the discharge information and setting up the transition from the facility to our home as well as making sure our family was prepared for her departure.

Abraham and Julia and PT staff for assisting her with therapy and patiently working closely to assure that she regained her strength and confidence. Randy who took the time to take my mother to her Kaiser appt , after I mistakenly canceled it at the last minute.

To Mr Aaron Bloom , whom I got the pleasure of meeting as he was on site. I don’t typically take the time to express such immense gratitude for a facility that has cared for my mother.this review was warranted . After 28years in the medical field and now retired, I must say you have a team and staff of employee’s who truly care about the impact they provide for their patients.

For that I thank each and everyone of you!

Sincerely, The Specchiali , The Scavone family.

My mom has been at this place a little over a year. Originally, my mom came as a possible long term patient due to vascular issues with her legs and some cognitive impairment. My mom suffered a massive stroke while in the care of the Pines. I am still to this day (5 months later) still seeking answers. I got more answers from the hospital than the facility itself.

I still question how my mom was found on the bathroom floor after having a stroke when she was a fall risk. Someone should've helped her to the bathroom. I will say thankfully my mom was rushed next door to Marshall Hospital where she received life saving care and then transfered to UC Davis for a specialized procedure.

I will also say I am very impressed with the speech therapy she has received since her return after her stroke. I am fond of the Nursing Director, their transport guy, a nurse or two and a few CNA's. Some of the staff are amazing and truly do care about the patients, but not enough of them do and it greatly shows.

The care itself is subpar with the staff being overworked like most healthcare facilities currently. 65% of the time the staff is friendly the other 35% ignore you or act as if you are bothering them. The facility itself is clean and there are lots of activities for the patients to participate.

The communication is terrible. I only get updates when the facity calls to cover their arse. Attempting to reach social services is a joke and don't expect any updates on loved ones as you have to hunt that down and even then it's still hard to get answers. Many of my moms items I brought that were inventoried have never been returned (mostly clothes and a blanket). The parking lot is tiny and super hard to find parking on a weekday.

I thankfully personally know some of the staff outside of the facility and if it were not for those bonds I would've relocated my mom by now. I would not recommend this place unless you plan on being very active with visits and care plans to check on your loved one in person.

07/20/2021 The Pines has been wonderful for my aunt. Previously, The Pines reputation had been less than stellar; but, under the positive guidance of executive directors Sam Smith, this place has turned a corner. They have started, with bringing in an amazing staff. Abraham and the entire PT/OT have been magnificent. Jeanette, the case manager, has been my saving grace during a very difficult time. Kristina in social services has helped guide me in understanding the nightmare that is Medicare. Randy, the transportation coordinator and appointment guru has been a tremendous help. Doctor Dobaria listened to our concerns, and has eased our fears by addressing my aunts challenges. I couldn't ask for better care.

More than that, this dated facility is getting a makeover. They've landscaped, painted, brightened up, and are reducing the depressing smells previously associated with The Pines history. Skilled nursing is NOT an easy step, it's not home, it's not the hospital, and its not a hotel. Its scary, loud, and unfamiliar. This crew is successfully tackling these issues head on. I've not met one person that hasn't listen to and addressed my questions. Rest assured, I've watched with a hawks eye, and my aunt has even been happy with her food! Don't listen to dated opinions, I'm watching first hand, and we're thankful she's here.
