I visited the Museum in the beginning of December. Chronology of brutal history of how "the West was won"... A very sombering story of slaughter of indigenous people and the Chinese who died in thousands while building the railway and other infrastructure for the local use..

Visited on Aug 20,2022 . If you want to learn the local history and surrounding geology, this is definitely a good place to go.

A well-curated museum with great exhibits on the local history of geology, native culture, early "white" settlement, and mining.
An extensive display on Pomo basket weaving, and a 90+ carat Lake County 'diamond', are among the jewels on display within the walls of Lake County's historic courthouse.

I had pleasant interactions with the folks at the front desk. They even provided me with digital copies of historical photos related to my graduate research.

I recommend anyone passing through town takes some time to peruse the exhibits and make a donation!

The museum is in the old courthouse, a stately building more than 100 years old. The first floor has nicely done exhibits from the many tribes who once inhabited the area and a smaller exhibit of rocks and minerals found in the area. The second floor has exhibits that date from the pioneer era.

There are many handwoven baskets made by local tribes and the variety, decoration, and uses they were put to are amazing.

I would have liked to see more detailed explanations of each of the exhibits but there was still lots of food for thought! Thank you to the staff and volunteers!

This the local museum in an old courthouse building. Nothing special about that.But, the contents are surprisingly good.The display on the geologic history of Clear Lake is really interesting! The faults and the big landslide are amazing.The Native American / Pomo exhibits are good, too. There's a tule balsa boat that is quite interesting.A bit of geology, a display about five famous folks who had ties to the area and the courthouse history are all there.The staff member was an outstanding example of hospitality -- don't worry about the closing time, he said, "we never throw anyone out." We stayed to about 4:20 PM - well after the closing time and that worked out great! Thanks!A donation of $2 per person is requested, but it's "put it in the box," so this isn't a regular admission fee.

I absolutely loved spending time here. Its so culture based and the artifacts and history are amazing. They have a little bit of everything from stones to pomo womens weavings even a canoe. The woman at the front desk was a doll i enjoyed laughing and talking with her. We bought a few memorabilia post cards and sent them home to my mom on Maui. Excellent place to visit

I love antiques Victorian style or big old ranch or farm style homes,photos, artifacts and all the preserved history and information that goes along with it. This museum is a must see if your able.
It reminded me of the Old Lahaina courthouse at home on Maui. Another must see as well

My girlfriend and I visited here during our vacation in Lake County and thought this place was great! We especially liked the antique room and the Crime and Punishment exhibit upstairs. As an added bonus, while you're in the museum you'll be in reach of three Pokestops.
