My daughter Sophie started kindergarten and completed the Hellenic American Academy this year! We've been part of this wonderful Greek family for the past nine years, and we've made lifelong friends! Initially, we planned for her to attend only through kindergarten, but after experiencing the Academy's personalized attention and exceptional education, we decided to stay for the upper grades.

We love the bilingual Greek lessons integrated into the curriculum. A few friends who joined from highly-rated public schools have even mentioned that the education here is superior. I highly recommend the Hellenic American Academy for its outstanding education and dedication to each student.

Adult Evening Greek Language School. This is an outstanding adult Greek language learning experience. I’ve searched for years to find a way to get formal language education and found it at HAA.

My constraints are typical of adults and working people in that I work long hours and have a family with little time for formal or structured self study. Besides, where do you start?! I’ve had challenges with finding adult Greek language learning opportunities. Yes there are tutors online but in the US this education is seemingly limited to Greek grammar schools for children and in University mostly focused on classics (Homer, Socrates studies) and Ancient Greek. Adult education has a gap. My exposure to the Greek language is very limited although I have distant and loving family and friends that live in Greece. As a Greek-American that is 3rd generation in the US it is amazing how strong the ties continue to be.

This program includes: 1 evening per week, formal Greek language training materials, certified Greek language teacher (Greek native speaker), and custom materials that are created for me and fit for my learning needs along the way. Everything requires personal commitment and for me I work to get in 2-5 hours per week to study and complete assignments that are provided. This is a low stress class that moves at a reasonable rate. Much thought has been given to properly evaluate the competency and learning needs, paced adult learnings to fit busy schedules, and adult students grouped together based on their individual Greek language competency.

I’m approaching the end of my 2nd year of this program and feel very accomplished and happy with my experience. I hope to increase to 2 sessions per week as I now believe 1-session is needed for study/lessons and 1-session is needed for talking. As I’ve progressed with learning language fundamentals 1-session was perfect. Now with my expanded Greek language understanding, I need more focused time on verbally exploring what I’ve learned.

The instructor I have is outstanding! I’ve met a couple of the teachers and they are really great people and educators. My specific instructor is incredibly talented with teaching the Greek language. However, this isn’t the entire experience. Discussion has been worked in to talk about Greek culture, travel, ancient-Greek language/history. This is casually but cleverly integrated into the sessions at the right moments. The bottom line is that this is a formal Greek language course for adults taught by very talented and professional instructor / linguist.

I currently have 3 children attending the Hellenic American Academy and soon a 4th!
We started out, planning to attend only for the preschool grades, but after experiencing the one on one attention and excellent education provided by the Academy we decided to stay for the upper grades. We love the bilingual Greek lessons that are incorporated into the day a few of my friends have joined the Hellenic American Academy after attending highly rated public schools, and said the education from our school is better. We plan on staying all through eighth grade for all four children, and are very satisfied. I highly recommend the school for its excellent education and attention to each student.

The school is the best school anyone could ever ask for. The education is stellar, and it is personalized to be beneficial for each child due to its small size. The teachers and staff are so incredibly caring and have the children's best interest in mind at all times. It is such a happy and healthy environment for every child. The teachers know how to properly teach a classroom in a positive and fun way. I can say out of experience that the education you receive at the Hellenic American Academy will over-prepare your child and put them ahead of the game for high school.
