I’ve been riding for almost 7 years now and have been with OCRA since mid 2022. I have gone through countless phases, moved up to different levels and even struggled with different things like a back injury among mental health struggles. The trainers Val, Lisa and Bridget have all helped me endlessly. This place has become a second home and is ultimately my favorite place to be. The workers and owners dedicate time and resources into making sure the horses are well cared for and that every client is satisfied. You can really tell that Val and everyone else has such a huge love for these animals. I haven’t always had the best experiences with trainers and barns but when I say that On Course has only ever made me feel supported, welcomed and appreciated I truly mean it. I am so grateful for everyone there and HIGHLY recommend it. The IEA and NIHJA teams are also such a wonderful group of individuals and the bond between the horses, trainers and riders is comparable to family. Thank you OCRA for making these past years of my equestrian career absolutely unforgettable and filled with many cherished moments and experiences.

On Course Riding Academy is more than just a barn, it’s a family. Immediately, my daughter felt welcome. All of the riders and staff are nice. The barn does not tolerate bullying or any nonsense. Val and Lisa are excellent trainers and have helped my daughter progress in her skills so much that she will be riding on a college team next year.

Lastly, it’s really easy to sign up for lessons. You pay for a monthly package and then book your lessons online.

We’re so glad we found On Course Riding Academy! Our three-year-old has a blast in the pony class with Ms. Tracie. She’s not only having fun but also learning so much! I love that the class covers important things like safety, grooming, different horse breeds, feeding, and more. It’s amazing to see her so excited and eager to learn each week. This is by far the best barn I've been to. Val is such an amazing trainer that puts so much time into her students. A trainer that really cares. I've been with her for 8 years now and I will continue to ride with her. Her horses are amazing for riders of all levels.

My mom has terminal cancer and she wished to ride a horse one last time. She wanted her grandchildren there to share the moment with her. I had a short window in which 2 of my kids were home from college. I reached out to Val and she was so warm and accommodating. My mom was able to get on a beautiful horse, Maxx, with Val’s careful assistance. My kids and I also had a turn riding Maxx and my mom was overjoyed! It was a beautiful moment that we will always treasure. A huge thanks to Val and her lovely assistants!!

Our family has been riding with Val for almost 15 years. She is THE best instructor for both beginner and advanced riders!! She has so many amazing horses for riders at all skill levels. Val teaches you how to ride AND also teaches you the horsemanship skills you need to feel comfortable being around and taking care of horses.

I am writing this from the parent perspective. My daughter has been riding under Judy for 8 months. We came here because my daughter wanted to resume riding again after a 3 year hiatus. We were pleased with the quality of horses, the thoughtfulness in scheduling their times, the execution of lessons, appropriate to skill level and super encouraging. Judy always took time to explain things to me (a non-rider) and made sure everything was safe for the horses and riders. She knows her stuff! Within 3 lessons, my daughter was back in form! We found another family to continue group lessons with and have enjoyed weekly lessons ever since (until the COVID-19 stop).
After a few months, Judy encouraged my daughter to try a school show. She LOVED it! She earned a few ribbons and learned how to handle herself on the course. We were glad Judy offered her the opportunity and were so pleased with the show.
Judy is patient, speaks softly with keen guidance, and encourages my child with a smile, especially when a learning opportunity strikes! Judy is a great fit for our daughter, but the other trainers are just as wonderful. We were lucky to find this place and look forward to the future.
