I met Lucy last weekend at a Raleigh health fair. She was so kind to my children. She took time with them to learn what they like and found books for them that they love. My son started reading a basketball book on the way home. She found me a cookbook and I already made some dinners from it. We all left so excited to read. Thank you Midsouth Literacy and Lucy!

If you are passionate about literacy with children in Memphis this is certainly NOT the place for you. You are made to believe that you are going into these schools to make a difference and the tutor “support” managers if I can call them that will NOT support you in any way form or fashion. Myself along with another coworker were terminated with no explanation or meeting as we were told we would have even AFTER we came to Jennifer Hepler multiple times with our grievances concerning a specific staff member of MSCS. We have been disrespected from day one and the person that is supposed to support us did everything but. We were fired because it was the easiest thing to do, we were never asked what our side of the story was NOTHING. You will not be valued as a tutor at this establishment no matter how well of a job you do. Literacy Mid South is about their money not people and it showed when firing two black girls for professionally standing up for themselves after MONTHS of disrespectful and intimidating treatment by our former site’s librarian. Not only does this establishment not care about their tutors they also do NOT keep their word nor do they have any intent on responding to any emails or phone calls I’ve made in regards to this. In no way do I want this job back but the way that myself and my former coworker have been treated and dumped to the side after giving or time and passion to this office as well as our children is absolutely deplorable. We were lied to being told that we would have a meeting about the issue that transpired just to be terminated in the most unprofessional way, via text message. Jennifer Hepler is an enabler that only cares about her state grant money and will do anything to maintain that, even if it means allowing her employees to be disrespected and disregarded daily. If I could give 0 stars I would, please do not waste your time or effort with this company especially Jennifer Hepler.

Update: after a week of trying to speak with someone in office above Jennifer we have not been able to reach anyone and have been completely ignored. We simply want the truth about this company to be heard and a review of what has happened with each of us. Literacy Mid South is deliberately ignoring our reviews, emails and phone calls simply because they are an at will employer. With the nature of our firing being due to race, it is important that Jennifer Hepler and whoever enables her behavior are held responsible and no other employee goes through what I have gone through
