We've been going to the Sterling public library for about 20 years and we love it! My now grown sons loved going there as kids as they have a fabulous kid's floor downstairs with all the kids books and lots of toys and train tables and now they have electronics for the kids to use in computers and DVD's they can check out And all the kids that I've ever place. it's also great for their growing minds and characters As they have to learn to use and develop a quote library voice. Lol. They can talk in the regular voices downstairs they just can't be loud or scream or run which is nice! LOL. I would recommend this library almost any library To parents of young children as it is great for their growing minds. 😊🙏🏽

The folks at the library were happy to share our Big River Brass Band posters with the community for our upcoming free concerts this summer, including one in Sterling.

The main reason why I give this rating 3 out of 5 stars are the hours: they are very limited, only Mon-Fri, 10-5. On the tech side of the library, there, too, it's pretty limited. You only get 1 hr on the computers, yet it takes 10 mins for the login process and for apps like Chrome and Word to load. However, you can ask for more time if you let them know well before your time expires. Regardless, the computers kick you off 10 mins before the library closes. And then, one day, when I really needed to print something, the printer didn't work. Other than the tech side of the library, the employees are friendly and helpful. They ordered a book for me from across the state. They have a nice video selection. The library is quiet, warm and clean. All said, I urge them to extend their hours to 7 or so and on Saturdays.

Have stopped coming to the Sterling Library. Reasons are mainly the
sewer gas vapors in lower parts of library.
During the year at various times weather causes sewer gas vapors to rise to upper level main floor when going into winter or coming to warmer months.

Have been told management knows and won't do anything about it.
Asked once, a few years ago and recently in 2018.

Would like to see spl get health inspection done on old plumbing issues dating back to 2012. (maybe further but I wasn't here for it.)

Upsides are:
Mostly helpful people.
Good plug in areas for phones and laptops near area with windows.
Can get a book from another library if they don't have what your looking for in house. (provided one of the others has it. I don't know if they would get a book not already in circulation for you.)
Can print and make copies here if need be and only for a bit of change.

Love the library in general.

Downsides are:
Lead to see how obstinate management can be which is always a red flag.
air quality drives me out because library isn't kept up where boys bathroom is in kids area.
Loud librarian or two.
And of course.. As for now, it is way too toxic an environment for us and especially to use child's library due to sewer gas emissions from boys bathroom on lower level.

Added thoughts:
Praying for patrons who are unaware of why they are having unexplained symptoms.
Those working there who don't have a choice but to be downstairs a lot during the year are exposed to it longer and more often.

Great people, usually. Most people in this town suck however. The staff are kind and helpful. They are sadly missing a large selection of great Author's novels as well as never having any new films. Which I suppose has to do with this backwater town. So I am sorry that I can only give this library a 2/5 an interesting glass floor and beautiful old style building does not make a good library. If you're looking for Rothfuss or Mark Lawrence amoung many others you will be sadly disappointed.

One of my favorite places, so great for research and quiet 🤫 reflection. Update: Also helpful for watching "How To" videos to get your phone working again.
