Sylvan has helped our daughter immensely over the past number of months. They have helped her with both ACT and SAT prep as well as some AP calculus tutoring. She has also taken practice ACT/SAT tests to help prepare her for test day. We are so grateful for all that the Sylvan educators have done to help her thus far. We will be continuing to use them over the next 6 months for continued SAT preparation (math in particular) as well for
college essay preparation and execution. They offer so many services that are helpful to students on all levels. If your child needs extra help, don’t hesitate to reach out to them. You won’t be disappointed!

My son started Sylvan in the middle of 3rd grade last year. He was clearly struggling, and felt so overwhelmed and didn’t feel he was at the same level as the rest of his class. He hated Math, refused to write unless he absolutely had to, and his reading comprehension was below average at school. What’s great about Sylvan is their take on each child’s individual needs. Besides the usual of giving your child a test to see where they stand academically, they also take the time to get to know your child on a personal level. When they need him to practice writing, they center around topics he enjoys and literally could talk your ear off. Instead, they have him put it to paper. With Math, they took the time to explain things he was missing, or not quite understanding in class. He brings his homework with him to Sylvan if he needs extra help, then proceeds with the lessons they have for him. Reading comprehension was a big concern for us last year. His teacher felt he would need summer reading camp because his scoring and testing were below the passing rank. I discussed this with Sylvan 2 months prior to EOG’s. They immediately switched gears and put a primary focus on reading comprehension. He passed all his EOG’s, but the reading comprehension part of the test blew his teacher’s mind.

When my son began Sylvan he made comments about how he wasn’t as smart as his peers. He couldn’t do it, he was going to fail, it was too hard and none of it made sense. As a parent, hearing your child express such a low self esteem was heartbreaking. I enrolled my son in their monthly membership, and he’s been going to their facility 2 times a week, 2 hours at a time. During the summer, I made the decision to continue the program in hopes he would have a leg up the beginning of this year. Every month Sylvan sets up a progress meeting with you, and can tell you how far into the school year your child is based on their own testing. Currently, my son is the middle of 4th grade. And he came home to tell me, “I think this is going to be a great year Mom, I’m making so many A’s.” Keep in mind, this is the same student who told me last year that he wasn’t smart enough like his classmates. His confidence in his own academic abilities tells me everything I need to know, Sylvan works!!!

Sylvan has been a life saver for us and our children throughout the shutdowns of the school and navigating the remote learning. We also discovered in the process that both of my children needed some help with reading, so their tutor has been amazing.Everyone on their staff is friendly and so nice, and since day one our kids have loved going. We are so happy that we found them!

When my son ended his school year of 1st grade in 2021, we received a "letter" for summer school. We had no idea that he was behind but my I knew I wanted a second opinion. My mom was the one who referred me to look into Sylvan and so I called and set up an appt with Sylvan in Wilmington with Stephanie. I explained everything to her and she was very helpful and explained everything in detail to me. My son was reading in K level. We had set him up this past summer (he could still have a summer and enjoy it) We have seen so much improvement with his reading. He wants to go to the book store and pick up books for him to read. We are almost to our 2nd grade level and we are beyond excited for him! He loves going to Sylvan because it makes it fun for him to learn!!

I went to the Sylvan learning center to get help with my 7 yr old son. With school being on line he was behind in reading. Stephanie Smith did his evaluation and confirmed what I thought, my son needed a little help. She was great getting him scheduled into a rotation and very helpful with the payment plan. Sylvan has been instrumental in not only catching our son up in his reading, but in building his confidence going into his classroom each day. The teachers and staff at Sylvan have been incredibly patient and encouraging, and we cannot thank them enough.
