My son started at Sylvan just after the start of his third grade year. We have always had wonderful teachers to work with but it was clear to us he needed a little extra help outside the classroom. Sylvan in durham is so personable and from the initial meeting, we were given so much more than we expected. They created a detailed plan for learning and do a wonderful job of assessing along the way. Our son’s confidence was lacking when he started but they work diligently to personally support their students. His confidence has grown tremendously, even in the first couple sessions, and we have seen it translate right over to his school classroom. We love being at sylvan and every teacher we encounter does a great job. We are thankful for the environment and confidence they are helping give our son!

My daughter started at Sylvan after beginning 1st grade and being behind on reading.

With 3 sessions a week over 4 months, she has shown incredible progress. She has caught up to the rest of her class, and her teacher has been truly impressed. She recently began reading on her own, for pleasure -- this was a change from agonized, assisted reading that we had to struggle through.

Sadie and her team are doing a great job. And the results are clear.

Sylvan has been a great experience so far! The Director, Michelle is amazing! She communicates thoroughly and you can tell she cares for the students. She thinks of ways to incentivize families to be engaged in the process and is upfront about everything. I appreciated the assessment in the beginning to help us better understand our child’s strengths and gaps. We look forward to seeing the progress our child will make.

After walking into the center and being greeted by the director, Michelle Blackmon, I knew I was in the right place for my daughter. Michelle was very thorough and she made sure I had a clear understanding of how Sylvan worked. She also ensured that I was aware of the expectations from me to aide in my child’s success with the program. My daughter is so excited to learn in small groups with other children. After her first day, she asked if we could read together everyday. 🥹😊

My daughter started in November of last year, which she was at the beginning stage of kindergarten level and she is in the 2nd grade. Within a few weeks of her beginning there she has improved. By the end of the year, she was on last grade level, and some 2nd grade by the middle of January 2024. They are really working with her, so that she can be prepared for 3rd grade next year. Her goal is to be above grade level, and with they support and mine, she will be. I highly recommend Sylvan Learning to any child who needs the help. Thank you Michelle Blackmon and staff for all you have done and is still doing. If it wasn't for y'all I don't know where my child levels will be. Keep doing to support our future leaders.
