A residential (also serving non-residential) state school for students with hearing problems, up through high school. An institution supporting American Sign Language. Jacksonville has a large deaf community outside of the lSD community, which makes local businesses and other community resources more deafness-sensitive and helpful than might be the case in other small towns. For example, open- captioned movie screenings are common in movie theatres for current-run movies on weekends when older students leave campus.
