Sylvan Learning Center in Pembroke Pines has been a game-changer for my child! When we started in November, my child was scoring at a kindergarten level, and by January, they had progressed to a solid 2nd-grade level. The personalized learning plan and supportive teachers made a huge difference in building confidence and skills. I was amazed at how quickly my child improved in reading and math. If you’re looking for a place that truly helps children grow academically, I highly recommend Sylvan!

Excellent and caring. Two of our kids have been attending Sylvan for a few years for educational enrichment. Steve Springer, Margaret, and their staff are superb. Our kids enjoy learning at Sylvan. Sylvan's efforts to instill that joy in learning is one the most important qualities in educational instruction. I highly recommend Sylvan and its staff!

Back in July this year my son was required to take a standard test for Math and Reading in Sylvan Learning, as part of his admission to CCA. That’s when we learned his reading comprehension needed support, and decided to enroll him with Sylvan. After almost 2 months in the program, he tested again and he has improved his level significantly. He’s also been doing good at school in his English class. Highly recommend Sylvan, I’m very pleased to see my son’s progress.

Sylvan has been so instrumental in helping my son to get caught up in just one summer. Once we learned that we were able to use our step-up scholarship, that was very beneficial and allowed us to aggressively work on any deficits that presented themselves after we did our diagnostic tests. Now, my son is back in school and is more confident and ready to achieve his goals for his 11th-grade year. We continue to attend Sylvan and will start SAT/ ACT Prep soon. We are very thankful!!! We 10/10 recommend.

Sylvan Learning Center of Pembroke Pines has been a game changer for my 9-year old daughter, who is attending 3rd grade at PLE. The improvement in both her math and reading comprehension has been significant, from failing grades to Honor Roll Student (in only a couple of months). The Center’s Director, Steve Springer is superb! I greatly appreciate his time, candor, guiding me through the process, and providing best options suited for my daughter. The top-notch teachers, their dedication, and enhanced learning experience of the Center is unequal. Overall, we are very pleased with the process, set-up, and results. For those parents looking for a tutoring program where the kids are not only able to “catch-up” and improve their grades but to actually excel, look no further!

I love Sylvan! From the moment I first met with Steve and the team they were all so helpful and knowledgeable, they designed the perfect program for my son and he has been improving his grades since then! They are also very helpful and flexible when there is a need to reschedule a class when you call with enough time that they can arrange the schedule, I appreciate very much their attitude to help. The whole team is great, teacher and administrative team, my son is very happy, I recommend 100%

Sylvan Learning of Pembroke Pine is Amazing! My child is in first grade and has been having a hard time reading and writing in school. After my child joined sylvan I’ve heard from the school that they have definitely been improving so much in school and I got a report from the school saying that my child had been performing exceptionally well for a first grader. I also recommended the place to my relative’s children who had been struggling in school and ever since they’ve been there they also been improving in school. So if your child may be struggling or having trouble understanding how to comprehend reading this is definitely a place you would want to bring your child to improve.

TL/DR: They’re a business, and their bottom line comes first. They’re only nice when you’re a potential customer.

I initially chose Sylvan because of the reviews, and stupidly disregarded the bad ones. Don’t make my mistake. I sat on this review for a few days before posting to not act rashly.

I spoke to Steve at onset and was impressed at the time he had taken to explain things. I thought to myself that it seemed like good customer service. I paid the initial fees for testing ($150 [test]+ $50 [very BRIEF review of test or some kind of administration fee]). To say I was blown away that financing was offered to tutor my child (would be best price available) was an understatement, however, I would have paid it if it benefitted my daughter. The thing is, how would you know unless you have a trial period? I did just that. I was the one to say I wanted to hold off on the financing, and Steve’s response was neutral. As an aside—what lunatic pays $2,200+ at onset without first knowing how your child will adapt and respond? My advice- try it before committing.

My daughter attended 8 hours’ worth but I received conflicting information. I understood from my conversations with Steve that the tutor would review material and then my daughter would be placed on the iPad for the structured learning. My daughter told me it was the reverse—that she would be placed on the iPad first. She (presumably the other children, too) was required to do 3 lessons an hour. My daughter’s answers were unclear as to whether the tutor tutored. I’m not quite sure what the point of having a tutor is in front of them then, other than to keep up appearances? This isn’t even my gripe, though! I would have eventually addressed this with them to clear it up.

After my daughter’s 8 sessions were complete, my husband and I felt we would need to compare and contrast with other tutoring methods. This facility is a bit of a distance from us, too. Again, how do you know how your child will respond to tutoring intervention if you do not try OPTIONS?

Apparently, that’s not what Sylvan wants. I returned Steve’s call to let them know we were going to try private one-on-one tutoring to see how my child responds. After all—isn’t the point of this for the child to make gains and LEARN? My mistake. What a 180-degree presentation I got from Steve. A tirade ensued. I couldn’t even get a word in edgewise. I was appalled at the way he spoke to me, of course, very different than when I initially spoke to him prior to beginning at Sylvan. It was borderline hostile. When he came up for air and provided a second’s pause during his tirade, I had even said that we may return after trying the one-on-one tutoring if it didn’t work. He spoke over me, though, and it seemed he couldn’t get off the phone quick enough. I imagine he slammed it down, with the tone of our one-sided “conversation”. It was as if I’d personally insulted him.

Do they not understand that the only way to know if something works, is to try it? That’s what I did with Sylvan and that’s why I gave the facility a chance. How dare you speak to me so? The way that the tables had turned, it felt like I had been negotiating for a car for hours and was walking away from the deal having wasted their time, that’s how loaded his words were—very rude.

How about you just say—I’m sorry to see her go but if it doesn’t work with a one-on-one tutor, we’ll be here to pick up where she left off. DONE! I’d return in a heartbeat if it didn’t work out. That’s the mature and professional way to respond—not in the juvenile way that was expressed to me. Now? I’ll eat my shoe before I step foot through that door again. This experience may have cost me $200 but I saved $2200+. Thanks for preventing a very costly mistake.

Still, I wish them well. If anything can be gained from this review—speak to people respectfully. We’re all trying to do our bests, for ourselves and our children. Please realign your goals with those of the parents.
