I was pretty sure Ellerslie was a cult when I first discovered it, especially given some of the shockingly negative feedback I had read that intermingles so many positive reviews. I knew God had called me to go, I didn’t yet know why.
From the first day of training (I completed the ‘24 Summer 5 week semester, the ‘24 Alumni summit, and the fellowship extension back-to-back) I knew this wasn’t a cult. Everything I experienced, from day 1 of week 1, to the final day of week 7, was nothing but love, grace, mercy, kindness, victory, humility, and peace…. In other words, I met nothing but Jesus.

I can’t speak to the negative reviews of the past, I wasn’t there when those people walked through what they say they walked through, but all I can tell anyone who potentially is interested in this course is that you WILL encounter Jesus here. How you respond to Him, whether you accept the truth that His Spirit will show you, and what that looks like in your life moving forward is entirely up to you. But you will meet Him and you will have to decide how to answer the same question that Jesus asked the Rich Young Man in Matthew 19… “am I worth it all?”. How you respond to Him is up to you.

I cannot recommend this place enough, but be prepared to encounter a Christianity that does not allow passivity or lukewarmness. This is not “just another Bible school” (like I thought it was).

I attended the Ellerslie Basic Discipleship program in 2013. Alongside being discipled by my believing parents, the teaching I received at Ellerslie was a major contributor to laying a solid foundation in my faith. The scriptures and essential truths that became precious to me there remain precious to me now. For anyone desiring a focused season of growing in their relationship with Jesus Christ, I would definitely recommend Ellerslie.

If you come to Ellerslie with a heart willing to be transformed by the Holy Spirit- you will most definitely have an encounter Jesus Christ.
Sept 28th, 2018 was my encounter. To me, Ellerslie feels like home when I have the chance to visit with my wife and kids.

One star is too generous. I attended their discipleship training program in 2010 (Beta group). In the very first introductory session I was asked to stand up in front of everyone so it could be pointed out that I was an “interesting case” - I was a single mother. I was treated as some kind of dangerous temptress and it was utterly bizarre and so painful. Men didn’t speak to me let alone look me in the eye most of the time. Most of the women didn’t know how to talk to me. I started experiencing panic attacks for the first time in my life while attending this school. I could never figure out my place due to the way women are told incessantly that their place is beneath the “protective covering” of men - father, husband, brothers… none of which I had. Women are also told their highest purpose is to be a homemaker - not an option for me, either. I was either ignored, left out of community altogether, or was treated as a pet project in need of rescuing. The interactions between men and women was straight up bizarre. An engaged couple visited and were chastised for holding hands. My friend visited me while attending and she was asked to leave and return only with a longer dress (it was to her knees) and with her nose ring removed. There was exactly one person of color in my class and I repeatedly listened to people assume she wasn’t even American. I was told by leadership it would have been better for my child if I had given hip up for adoption so he could have two parents. I was told I shouldn’t go to therapy to process my childhood trauma - I could be “led astray.” We were taught ‘The word ‘personality’ isn’t in the Bible .” Utter conformity and self denial reigned supreme. The shame and guilt that so, so many of us dealt with as a result of not always fitting the cookie cutter image presented to us somehow surprised Eric Ludy, as he had a whole chapel discussion on it. But he never seemed to understand that he himself is not the blueprint for Christianity. I could keep going, but you get the idea. This place is a hop, skip and a jump away from being a cult. The most dangerous part of it all is the way they cast their judgements with such loving expressions on their faces. It has taken years of therapy to feel safe around other Christians because of this place.

Ellerslie changed my life. I recommend this school to my siblings, my friends, and anyone looking into Bible school. Each Ellerslie staff member has a heart set on the Lord Jesus, and is dedicated to every student that attends each semester. Everything that is done is out of love and honour, and to see the kingdom of Jesus brought to this earth. Ellerslie was the perfect place for me to have a set apart season with Jesus. The people there strive to maintain a pure, and peaceful environment for anyone to go to. Thank you Ellerslie for personally transforming my walk with the Lord, and for following the leading of Jesus in each one of your lives!

I was not sure what exactly to expect when I went to Ellerslie. My sister had attended a semester before me, and she came back a completely different person. She once was frustrated, weighed down- like she carried the world on her shoulders, but she came back completely renewed, joyful, and exuding the presence of Christ.
I attended Ellerslie Discipleship Training winter spring 2016. I wanted to learn more about Jesus and develop an intimate friendship with Him. I wanted something more from my Christian walk. I found that at Ellerslie. The leaders are filled with Jesus, they truly live what they preach.
I am so thankful for the three months at Ellerslie, for the set-apart time to focus fully on Jesus. To learn how much Jesus loves us, the importance of the Bible, and that we read to bible to know Jesus. Also to find that it's Jesus, all and only Jesus. By that I mean, good works, service, etc. Is not done in my strength, it is done by Jesus living inside me. There is nothing good I can do of myself, but with Jesus, He fills me and I can do nothing but serve others, and live like Christ.
All in all, Ellerslie Mission Society is a wonderful place to focus on Jesus.

Would you like to hear from someone who has been to Ellerslie, spent time around the program and ministry, and watched the way it has been led through the thick and thin places? I have seen things as they really are around Ellerslie, and as a result, I am more confident in Jesus and His Word than ever before. Ellerslie Training has been such a strength and benefit to my life. The teaching I've received has really just been a catalyst for my own study of the Word of God and the deepening of my relationship with Him. I have been inspired by the true, abundant life that I've seen in the staff at Ellerslie, and it has kindled a hope and wonder at the work of the Lord in the life of believers. God has used Ellerslie to gently show me that His gospel is powerful and effective, and that He longs to draw very near to me, filling "all in all," as I've read about in Scripture. I can't quite think of a better term for what I've seen at Ellerslie other than "abundant life." Christianity is meant to be glorious, awe-inspiring, practical, and actually fulfilling. During my time in the training programs (both Basic and Advanced), I realized that the true gospel-life could actually be my own experience. I've now had over 3 years of living in the power and love of God, as the Scriptures preach, and there are pretty much no words to accurately describe how good that is. I would recommend Ellerslie for anyone who is convinced that truth is found in the Bible, through Jesus Christ, and is desiring to know His life in a deeper way.

My time at Ellerslie far exceeded any expectations I had. I deeply desired to have set apart time to seek the Lord and grow in my knowledge and relationship with Jesus. Yes, we learnt a lot of factual knowledge about the Bible and Jesus, but all of that pales in comparison to the way Jesus revealed Himself in ways I'd never yet known Him in my life. My love for Him exploded, and yet, I would say it is merely a little bud and I can't wait for it to grow even more!

I'm Australian and I'd never been to the US before (and I didn't know anyone at Ellerslie!) so I really didn't know what to expect, but everyone was so kind and encouraging! There was always a friendly face around to point you to Christ, and there were in fact many people from all around the world!

We had such a variety of teachers who have walked very different paths with the Lord, and Jesus used this to perfectly orchestrate a wonderful semester, powerfully speaking truth into our lives and hearts exactly when we needed to hear it. It was a true blessing to be in an environment with other believers who were all pressing in to Jesus and diligently seeking to know Him as a reality in their lives.

The staff were wonderful in preparing us to come home and the support we have had returning home to continue pressing in to Jesus and live a victorious life in Christ has been truly incredible.

If you're looking to deepen your relationship with Jesus and learn very practically how to live victoriously in Christ, then Ellerslie is the perfect place to attend!
