Carl expects a lot from each of his students, it is evident in the way that he teaches, and his expectations of instructors. This is due to over 50 years in Wilderness Medicine, and he has seen and knows what true help this knowledge in in this area can truly make a difference, I highly recommend checking WMO out for a wide breadth and extensive wilderness knowledge!

I have taken several classes with Carl and each time he builds on the experiences that I had before. I always learn new techniques and procedures. His knowledge of wilderness medicine and survival is excellent. He really places emphasis on the long term care and transportation. Carl does an exceptional job of providing the student with skills practice as well as real life scenarios. His emphasis on team work really brings things together. For online and in person training for Wilderness First Aid, there is no better place to do this than Wilderness Medicine Outfitters. They strive to to make you competent in all the course content so you can actually go out and perform when needed in an emergency situation. Carl Weil is one of the most up to date and informed first aid instructors I have ever come across. His knowledge base is very extensive and he doesn't beat around the bush, he tells it like it is. If you need (or want) to take this course and want to learn from the best, then this is the place to do it.

Carl's depth of knowledge is impressive. He keeps up with the latest news in this industry. He has Been involved as a leader in this industry since it's inception. I have had wilderness 1st aid every few years since 1982. Carl has put together the best training I have very had. If you really want to learn something these are the classes for you. But, you have to do your work. If you want to get a card for just showing up, then this may not be the place for you. I just hope that nobody suffers because you wanted to take the easy way out!

HIGHLY recommended. If there is a chance that you may actually be in a situation to use these skills, then Wilderness Medicine Outfitters is amazing. You learn the material in these classes and gain the confidence to provide quality care in an emergency when you need to. Their online video learning is top notch. Their textbooks include the core info as well as useful perspectives and commentary. The skills sessions hit on all the right things and you are given the support to practice over and over until you get it right. However, the crown jewel of my learning experience with Wilderness Medicine Outfitters was the access to the instructors themselves. Take advantage of this! Take the time to talk to them, ask questions and learn from their decades of caregiving experience in the field. No book, no manual can compare to what I’ve learned from my conversations with my instructor. I was very impressed with the high quality of instruction and both instructors worked hard to deliver a very good medical seminar. The online videos were well done and easy to follow and all had valuable information. The hands on portion of the course put all the pieces together, and I'm once again confident in my Wilderness First Responder skill set. I would highly recommend Wilderness Medicine Outfitters to anyone seeking a quality up to date wilderness medical training.

I do not have a medical background or a lot of wilderness experience. I took the Wilderness First Responder class because I live remotely and am a single mother with 2 kids. I needed more than first aid! This class was very challenging. I learned so much valuable information that would have allowed me to save a life. Do not expect to pay your money and go home with a certificate. This class requires work and performance. Credentials from this class mean something, and you will have in-dept knowledge that you will likely have a chance to use. Carl really encourages asking your questions. If you don't ask during instruction, before each break he asks the students to write 3 questions and turn them in. After break he discusses the questions. There were lots of hands-on practical experiences and situations that we had to work thru. I also really liked how much Carl taught little tricks to improvise when you don't have a medical office at your finger tips.They were so valuable. Carl truly cares about his students and wants them to be successful at mastering the material.

Carl’s WFR course taught me how to make critical decisions in stressful situations. The course was organized into presentations, homework, quizzes, and hands-on scenarios. The hands-on practice helped the group take what we learned from the course materials into the field so we could perform under pressure in emergency situations.

Carl is a true expert in wilderness medicine, he is highly informed and can answer any question no matter how off topic it might seem. I recommend this course if you want to learn from the best and gain practice putting your skills to use so you can feel confident in your backcountry adventures!
